Montenegrin Wikipedia

Dear StevenJ81,,can you protect a beginner page for montenegro incubator? Some of users deletes our page and I would like to help us because you are a administrator.--pelivan (talk) 20:18, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Ookuninusi: Show me the history, please. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:20, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@StevenJ81: please see link history.--pelivan (talk) 20:23, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Ookuninusi: Blocked IP for three days. It's usually better to block bad behavior than to protect a page, because when possible we want to keep pages available to edit as much as possible. Still, if a different user/IP comes back and does the same thing, let me know. Then I probably will protect the page. (I'm anticipating there will be vandalism here, by the way. Do feel free to keep me posted.) StevenJ81 (talk) 19:30, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@StevenJ81: I would ask you if you can block Freemanmne or to tell him to change a behaviour bcz he deleted our page.

Look. --pelivan (talk) 21:43 , 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@StevenJ81: this has crossed all the boundaries! This user Freemanmne not only vandalises the home page, but he also offends me personally! Please, would you be so kind and block him immediately! Look.--pelivan (talk) 22:02, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Ookuninusi: The user is blocked for a day. But you need to follow me over to that user's talk page (which the user is still allowed to edit) and we need to have a talk. StevenJ81 (talk) 21:38, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@StevenJ81: i would ask you just one more thing. Could you possibly convert this: Dobro došli na Crnogorsku Vikipediju, "Izabran članak", "Izabrana slika" i naslov "Portali" into Cyrillic, as is thhe rest of the text?.--pelivan (talk) 22:51, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Ookuninusi: I restored the version you put back in place after the IP vandal deleted everything for the last time. All of the edit warring since then has been ignored. If it's what you want, fine. If it's not what you want, it's what you have to live with for now. StevenJ81 (talk) 21:57, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@StevenJ81: Here again, the same user link. Protect the page Lovćen.

--MneCuce (talk) 23:23, 27 December 2017 (UTC)Dear :::::::::@StevenJ81: please! You need to protect "Montenegrin Wikipedia" from undercover people who claim they are doing it for Montenegro and in fact doing it opposite as these people above. If your administrating work is correct and I know it is please you need to understand the problem here. Montenegrin language ist now recognized as specific language from Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian or Serbo-croatian. It has its specific form, its standard and IOS and CNR as mark. By my IP address or my email you can see from your company that I am not a spam but someone who is trying to help. Why should Montenegrins have they Wikipedia when it will be based as "Serbian Montenegrin Wikipedia" by articles and basically copy from there. Then its better without it because already Serbs lied a lot on their Wikipedia about Montenegrin history, language, state, nation, Montenegrin poets, famous people and all claiming they are Serbs and Montenegro is "true Serbian land" or people as "pure Serbs". Embassy of Montenegro will be familiar with this issue from last several days and about written above and changes that has been made. I hope you will find the way to bring this question of Montenegrin national issue to light. This look now of Montenegrin Wikipedia ist now something that Montenegrins want! We are using latin and cirilic letter ,also ijekavian akcent while Serbian language is cirilic and EKAVIAN, what is similar but very different in phonetic form.Reply

@MneCuce: I'm trying. But all of you are fighting so much it's very hard for me to sort out. Help me out over at I:CP if you can. StevenJ81 (talk) 01:42, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@StevenJ81: I have reached an agreement with the Montenegrin editors, that Montenegrin wikipedia should be in Latin. Jack, please let the incubator project proceed again.--pelivan (talk) 10:58, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@StevenJ81: what is going on, will the project on the incubator start? The editors have reached an agreement for it to be in latin alphabet, so there won't be any more arguments. Who is lang.com?--pelivan (talk) 16:00, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm in the process of reopening it now. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:01, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@StevenJ81: Library of Congress has posted cnr code on its site--pelivan (talk) 00:02, 29 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Ookuninusi: I know. It was actually up last week. I've already updated the article on English Wikipedia, and also the template on ISO 639-2 codes on English Wikipedia. But as I've made really, really clear both here and on Meta;
  • This is an ISO 639-2 code, not an ISO 639-3 code. But it's -3 that counts for our purposes. I expect a -3 code to be approved at SIL's next code release in late January 2018, but it hasn't happened yet.
  • Even if that happens, an ISO 639-3 code doesn't automatically entitle you to a Wikipedia project. If LangCom believes that Montenegrin is actually no different from the rest of Serbo-Croatian, it can still say no. Over on Meta, I opened a second discussion. If you guys want LangCom to say yes, you need to provide some evidence, of one of two types:
    • Concrete evidence (examples, not statements) that Montenegrin POV is not being allowed on Serbian or Serbo-Croatian projects
    • Some hard evidence (maybe of the type that convinced the Library of Congress) that Montenegrin is really different enough to deserve its own projects.
StevenJ81 (talk) 23:16, 28 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
@StevenJ81: May I get my bot on the Montenegrin project on incubator??--pelivan (talk) 20:52, 31 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
We tend to discourage bots here. What does yours do? StevenJ81 (talk) 20:44, 31 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@StevenJ81: hello, how does one get access to participate in the Second Discussion section of the Montenegrin Language proposal? This is my first contribution to wikipedia, so please accept my apology for such a novice question. I feel like time is of the essence on the topic and would rather get right to it as opposed to researching into protocol. Many thanks for any guidance.CG USA (talk) 05:55, 11 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Category:Wp/nhn/Incubator:Lenguas de México y la Wikipedia

Hi Steven; I start this notes for understanding more about Languages of Mexico. I would like that you read my note. See you my friend, and Happy new year 2018.--Marrovi (talk) 03:15, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Happy new year to you, too. But this belongs either on Meta or on a subpage of your user page. Only reason I could put the other bit on a Category page is that there were projects in that category and the narrative was describing them. This doesn't have anything like that, and I don't want you to start recategorizing everything into this category. StevenJ81 (talk) 03:48, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Pashto Wikivoyage 5

Hei sir after much work we have 170 pages. and like you said everyone is busy. Sir if you feel that we will get the project in January then it will be helpful, if no then I don't think we will be able to get this wiki before 2025 because our people work on projects when it's without test like wikipedia. and after four month's of work, if we didn't get this wiki in January so I will quit the hole Wikimedia 100% and if we get then i will take the project to the top:)) so please give me your opinion if you are quite sure that this project will not be approve in January :))))) Khan (talk) 07:27, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Bloch khan: Don't threaten here. We're probably about to approve a project that's been running here 11 years. You're moving at lightning speed, relatively speaking. I know you're young, driven and impatient. But really, Khan? I'd love to see you get approved, and sooner, rather than later. But if January is your deadline, I cannot guarantee that. So then leave now, good bye, and let your project rot here. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:21, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

No sir don't get me wrong, I'm just not so happy that langcom didn't said anything about Hindi Wikivoyage, but when we talk about Pashto Wikivoyage then they saying wait or make more contents. Khan (talk) 17:55, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

To tell you the truth, LangCom is currently saying "How did we let Hindi Wikivoyage get through?" They're thinking they don't want to make the same mistake twice. JUST BE PATIENT. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:01, 1 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
By the way most people look at things, you don't have 170 pages. You have about 142 pages, plus a number of templates and subcategories. But you have only 142 main space pages. I know you worked hard over the break, but that's not going to be quite enough pages to convince the people that think the test is too small. Try to get that up to about 200 main space pages and I'll try again. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:35, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much, we will try our best to make it 200 main space pages:))) Khan (talk) 22:03, 3 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hei sir after long time I missed you because I had nothing to say to you, but now we have 200 main space pages on Wikivoyage and around 50 template, together we have 250 pages. like you said you will request Wikimedia to accept Pashto Wikivoyage:))) Khan (talk) 01:29, 14 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Bloch khan: I'm going to have much less time the next month to spend here than I have recently. So please be patient when I don't answer immediately.
LangCom continues to have some concern that you and your team will walk away from the project when it's approved. So they'd like you to keep working a little longer before they say yes. They wouldn't give me a time frame or a number of pages; they simply want to see that this project continues to grow and have activity. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:05, 15 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

yes sir alright:)) Khan (talk) 16:08, 15 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Archive

Hey! I just saw your edit. I appreciate the work you do here, including the archiving. But maybe it would be better to wait a few days, so it is more accessible and everyone can still have the chance read it :) --OWTB (talk) 16:27, 16 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Block request

Hi sir can you please check this user's contributinos? I think he should be blocked for these reasons:

  1. Vandalism.
  2. Redirecting pages from a test wiki (wp/tzm) to another (wp/zgh), for example he redirected this page wp/tzm/ⵊⵙⴽ to this one wp/zgh/ⵜⵓⵜⵍⴰⵢⵜ ⵜⴰⵎⴰⵣⵉⵖⵜ
  3. Copy and paste from other test wikies.
  4. Language mistakes...

Brahim-essaidi (talk) 03:55, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Have you tried talking to him? --MF-W {a, b} 10:09, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Brahim-essaidi: I agree that would be the most productive approach, since you speak the language and we don't.
Please note that:
  • For vandalism, I'd want to see specific diffs, and since I don't understand the language, you'd have to tell me what the vandalism is.
  • For the next two, the issues are a little trickier. Content copied from one test to another is permissible (and sometimes even to be encouraged), although attribution needs to be made in the edit history or on the talk page. As for cross-test redirects, I note that the original content of the redirection page was pretty trivial. If the user who made the redirect thought that the target of the redirect was more complete, and if speakers of the initial language also understand the target language, it wasn't a terrible thing to do. That said, the better thing to do would have been to import the target page to the location of the redirect, with attribution, so that it appears in both tests.
  • For language mistakes, it's better if you correct them yourself.
I must say that I do not fully understand exactly what the difference is between zgh and tzm, thus further complicating matters.
Finally, please see your own talk page; separately, I'd like to ask a favor of you. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:27, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Steven, sorry for being late.

  • I think this is an example of vandalism in this page: Wp/zgh/ⴰⴳⴰⴷⵉⵔ
  • About cross-test redirects, I think it should not be in this case, because the content of original page was about a football club in Algeria (ⵊⵙⴽ/JSK). And the content of the target of redirect is about Tamazight/Berber language.

The difference between tzm and zgh is:

  1. Tzm is the Tamazight/Berber language spoken in Central Atlas of Morocco. See Central Atlas Tamazight
  2. Zgh; in this test wiki, we use the Standard Moroccan Tamazight.

For more information please see also Berber languages and Languages of Morocco.

  • I see your message on my Talk, and I'm going to check the wp/br test, then I reply as soon as possible.

Brahim-essaidi (talk) 20:31, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I take your point on the cross-test redirects and the like. The user has been disruptive in other ways. I will block temporarily, until I have time to sort through the user's edits.
  • What is the vandalism on this page: Wp/zgh/ⴰⴳⴰⴷⵉⵔ? I can't read it; I don't know what the vandalism is.
  • I know what tzm is supposed to be, and what zgh is supposed to be. I guess my question was: How different are those two in reality? If I had a medium length page correctly written in both languages, would they be completely different? 50% different? 10% different?
Thanks for looking at the ber test. StevenJ81 (talk) 20:55, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, @Brahim-essaidi, I have blocked that user for one week, to give me time to sort this out. Please watch and make sure that a new user or IP user do not come and do the same kind of thing. It will take me a couple of days to sort all of this out. StevenJ81 (talk) 21:11, 18 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank You Steven, I'll take some time this week too, to correct his language mistakes.

  • Vandalism in wp/zgh/ⴰⴳⴰⴷⵉⵔ is that he changed Template:wp/zgh/ⵜⴰⴼⵍⵓⵖⵎⵉⵙⵜ ⵜⴰⵎⴷⵉⵏⵜ (in English: Template:Infobox city) by this one he created recently.
  • Concerning the difference between tzm and zgh please note that in Morocco we can classify three main Berber language varieties; Rif, Tzm and Shi. I can't give you a specific percentage of difference, but I can tell you that there is a small difference between them in pronunciation and vocabulary. So, the linguists in the Royal Institute of the Amazigh Culture work on these varieties to improve and unify them in the standard Morocan Berber/Tamazight language for educational system. And the articles in test wiki wp/zgh are supposed to be written in the standard Morocan Tamazight.

Brahim-essaidi (talk) 01:38, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Brahim-essaidi: So here's my issue for you.
Look at the user's comment on his own talk page. He is essentially presuming that "we in Morocco" want Wikipedia to be in Standard Amazigh, not in dialects. So he is moving content from the other projects to "Standard."
  • I'll say right up front that the user did not have the right to do what he did without community permission. He would be allowed to copy information, but not to move it. And that's a problem.
  • Still, at a certain point, if any of these projects ever gets to the point where it would be big enough and active enough to approve, LangCom may eventually start asking if it should approve only one project (in "Standard") or several (because they're different enough from each other).
  • And on another level, there's a good question as to whether or not the community shouldn't focus resources and efforts on a single project and push it through toward an eventual approval, as opposed to having all of the projects open and running. And at this point, for a variety of reasons, the "Standard" project is probably the best candidate to be the focus project. So while that user's unilateral activity was not appropriate, it's possible that the ultimate goal is the appropriate one. Why don't you try to discuss that with the user, and then perhaps create a community discussion to take a decision forward. Consider using Category talk:Incubator:Test wikis/Berber-Amazigh tests as a place to discuss it. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:40, 19 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Thank You Steven. I just read the user's comments and yours too on his own talk page and I agree with all your points.

Azerbaijani Wikivoyage

Hello. I want seriously work on Azerbaijani Wikivoyage. But please tell me what is minimum requirements for approval project for new site? --Drabdullayev17 (talk) 11:24, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Drabdullayev17: We're glad to have you. Welcome.
I can't give you a fixed number of pages that is required for approval. Most of the requirements have more to do with making sure that an active community exists. We are most concerned that if a project is approved, a community will continue to keep it active and growing. We don't want to see a project created and then abandoned. And that's especially true for a project like Wikivoyage, where travel information details can change so often.
  • First, see m:LPP for the general requirements for project approval.
  • An "active test project" means at least that the project has contributions from at least three registered users each month, and that each of those three registered users makes at least ten edits during the month. And that level of activity must continue on for as long as it takes to get the project to approval.
  • Other than Hindi Wikivoyage, no approved Wikivoyage project has fewer than about 650 pages. I can't say that you must have that many pages for approval, but you should assume that LangCom is not interested in approving a project very much smaller than that. Also, assume that the majority of those pages need to be well-developed, not stubs and outlines.
  • You'll need to continue to work on interface translation at translatewiki.net.
  • Finally, make sure you're working on the right project: Wy/az is "Azerbaijani Wikivoyage", while Wy/azb is "South Azerbaijani Wikivoyage".
Good luck, and welcome. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:20, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Guianan Wikipedia

HI, excuse me, but do you know if something has changed about the Guianan Wikipedia because i don't know what to do, I still wait but nothing changes, maybe they just forgot me !!! LeGuyanaisPure (talk) 15:33, 23 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@LeGuyanaisPure: Who forgot you? Language Committee? You're not ready for approval yet.
  • You still need to have three registered editors with ten edits each every single month. And really, this is still too much of a one-man project: you need to have other people making more of the contributions.
  • You need to go to translatewiki.net and get them to activate gcr as a language. Then you need to translate the entire "MediaWiki most used messages" group, as well as other messages within "MediaWiki core messages" up to 13% of the total messages in that group.
  • Only after both of those things happen will this project be ready to consider for approval. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:34, 23 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Commons & WP/cnr again

Several news possibly of some interest for you. Note:

  1. Very likely an uneducated user from your wiki;
  2. An overzealous operator from our wiki deleting even obvious PD-old-100, but I already took care of this.

Regards, Incnis Mrsi (talk) 14:12, 25 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
WM Commons is very effective in watching copyright violations, but the site has a huge hysteresis. First sysops allowed Zanović to upload several dozens dubious portraits instead of blocking him promptly in the beginning, as I suggested. Then they blocked him indefinitely and now wipe out all Montenegrin uploads indiscriminately. Can you do something to educate the test people about intellectual property? First of all that they may not use {{own}} label for things borrowed or scanned. Now I can’t fend off deletions of even obviously uncopyrighted stuff (on risible pretexts such as “the text was scanned from a modern book”), after all these copyvio rampages. Nahua languages

Hi Steven; this list is for foreing people; Wp/nch/Uikipedia:Nahuatl languages/List of words, Mexican people students understand about Nahua languages and indigenous Mexican languages; Central Nahuatl and Huastec Nahuatl have got diferent ortography. See you next time.--Marrovi (talk) 22:43, 20 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Marrovi, Ooswesthoesbes: That's all fine. But you're making me guess about things, and I just don't have the time for it. Please go back to each and every page you have marked for deletion. Add a specific reason, in English, for example: This page is written in xxxx Nahuatl, not yyyy Nahuatl (or This project is written in yyyy Nahuatl, not xxxx Nahuatl). Add a signature in every case. Then make sure all page links are cleaned up. Then, and only then, will OWTB or I delete.
More to the point: you (and any fellow contributors) ought to start thinking about which of all these Nahuatl languages are potentially reasonable to take forward to an eventual approval path, and consolidate your work in those. I really doubt it's feasible (or appropriate) to have a dozen different Nahuatl Wikipedias.
And next time, please answer us on your talk page, not mine. We do watch. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:22, 21 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Marrovi: I have reverted all of those deletion requests. Please understand the following:
  • Mechanics of deletion requests:
    • You need to put reasons and a signature in the deletion template.
    • Please just add the deletion template to the top of the page. Don't replace the redirect that was already there. Otherwise I can't tell what it is I'm potentially deleting.
If you don't do those two things, I'm just going to revert immediately, even if the requests are otherwise valid.
  • Handling parallel test projects (like Wp/nch and Wp/nhn): In principle, each test is independent of the other. So you really do not have the right to take a page out of one test and move it into a different test, and especially without leaving a redirect so that people from the first test can see where the content went. So if you think the page is really written in the other language, what you need to do is this:
    • (option 1, better) Copy the contents of the page to the correct location. Include in the edit summary that you copied the information from the other page (with a link). Then on the original page, correct it to the proper language.
    • (option 2, not as good) Move the page the way you did, but leave the redirect there. If you do that, you might want to create a message template and add it below the redirect. It should say something like: "Please feel free to copy the content back to this location if you can correct it for this language."
I hope that's clear. I'm more patient with you than just about anyone else around. Don't make me regret that. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:42, 2 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request

Hei sir I never sit and wait sir, actually I'm the one who invited another people via Facebook, Instagram, and many other things, and told them that it will be a site where we can write about all over the world, now me the person who permanently waiting for the wiki, and in the last 4 months every single day I checking the status of (Wy/ps) in meta. we have more than 10000000 Words in content pages, and langcom will check everything in the beginning of the month when there is 2 active persons with 7-8 edits, then they think there is no activity they can check the wiki now when there is enough activities,I request you sir please please approve our project in this month thank you very much:)) Khan (talk) 04:48, 23 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'm having them review it again. Remember: (1) I don't have a vote. I can't approve you myself. (2) Exactly the problem they are worried about is that the project will stop being active. Dear, I am block in English wiki So I cannot apply for rename and cannot edit in English wiki. Kindly unblock me in English Wiki, There will be no loss in English wiki, if I am unblocked. @Sraiki: I am in no position to do that. It is a decision that has to be made by administrators on English Wikipedia. I paste here for your convenience the directions for this:
  • If you are blocked → place the code: {{Unblock|Your reason for unblock}} – on your talk page. You may also contact the blocking admin via email (navigate to their userpage [on English Wikipedia] and click "Email this user"). If you can't edit your talk page, you may appeal your block via Wikipedia:Unblock Ticket Request System.

Question

Hi! How to open a Azerbaijani Wikinews on az.wikinews.org?--Neriman2003 (talk) 09:58, 1 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

I see that you have been contributing to the test project at Wn/az. That's the first thing to do.
After that, you need the following:
  • You need to have a community contributing to the project. That normally means—at the very least—that you have three registered editors, making at least ten edits each, every month for at least three months. You are not close on this right now; you need to recruit others to help you.
  • You have to have a good amount of content and keep it updated. There is not a specific rule about how much is enough. But we can't start talking about it until there are 200–300 pages at minimum.
Good luck. StevenJ81 (talk) 20:51, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Questions for the Judaeo-Italian Wikipedia

Shalom, StevenJ81 Thanks for be interested on my project for creating a Judaeo-Italian Wikipedia. In first, I would tell you that I not understand the Hebraic Writing System, because I'm not a Rabbi or a Doctor in Hebrew language. I don't understand the Hebrew language, too, because in Nuoro there aren't synagogues or any hebrew who understand it. In second, a question, are you from Israel?. In third, I have created the Incubator Page for the homepage of the Wikipedia, what other can I do? Best Regards,Havanaderci,SarduLogoduresu.

@SarduLogoduresu: I am not from Israel, though I have a son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter who live there. I live in the US. The Hebrew I wrote read Hag kasher v'sameah—a happy and kosher holiday [Passover].
Now, you need to start creating more encyclopedia pages in Italki. Perhaps you can get an idea of what to do by looking at the Judeo-Spanish (Ladino) Wikipedia here. Eventually you need to be able to create content like this in order to have an Judeo-Italian project fully approved. StevenJ81 (talk) 20:44, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much. Me too have a long long uncle who lived in Jerusalem. Anyway, thank you so so so much. Regards, SarduLogoduresu. 20:58, 2 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

That's right. You'll need to do this for at least a few months until your project becomes ready to be on its own.
  • I'd like to ask a favor: When you write on a talk page, please add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of what you write. That will sign your comments automatically. But don't do that on a regular encyclopedia page.

bqi wiki incubator

Hello Dear StevenJ81.
bqi wiki incubator in last year and this year had very much activity and it has more than 4 active users but it does not make. is there any problem to made it? best wishes.Mogoeilor (talk) 05:34, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Mogoeilor.
The main issue you have right now is that most of your project's pages are stubs. (You understand what that means?) I just checked 15 pages of your project at random, and they were all stubs. So you have a lot of pages, and a lot of structure to support a future encyclopedia. But you need to start building out the pages and adding real content to them, or else the Language Committee will not approve the project.
Please let me know if you need me to explain further. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:24, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply
I will add:
  • Your test's activity is great! Please keep that up. My point here is that instead of creating new stub pages, now have your team focus on building these pages out into real encyclopedia pages.
  • Have a look at the most important messages on translatewiki.net. Some of them are now considered to be outdated, and need to be either updated or confirmed. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:22, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

what do you mean stubs? please tell me what do you mean! so thanks.Mogoeilor (talk) 13:40, 28 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

See, for example, en:WP:STUB. (Don't worry about "stub types". Just look at part 1.) A stub is an extremely short page, having very little actual encyclopedic information on it. It is perfectly fine to start creating pages this way, so that you know what you want to write about, and so that you can lay out an outline of an article. But overall a stub is not considered to be a true encyclopedia page. And tests that mostly consist of stubs do not get approved.
I hope you understand what I mean. You need to stop creating new pages and start filling the pages you have with real content. Your test will not be approved until more of the pages have real content. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:25, 30 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

User:Ha98574/wy-ko-article

(en-1) Hi. User:Ha98574/wy-ko-article, my sandbox for wy/ko, is for Wy/ko/대한민국의 축구(means 'Football in South Korea') and its subpages. Its contents are for travel guide on football in S.Korea and traveling courses for spectators. It will be not only contains stadiums(teams) but also includes nearby tourist courses, (ex. foods, tourist spots, hot places, transportations, shops, hotels, and other tips for traveling and spectating). So I think the article seems more like ko.wy than ko.wp. I had a discussion with ko.wy members about it. If you need, you can check the discussion from User talk:Ha98574#대한민국의 축구 문서 관련. Linters

Hi StevenJ81, I'm not very familiar with the incubator workflow - on non-active tests (e.g. Wp/inh/Коара_хьазилг) should the linter errors be cleaned up, will these pages be deleted, etc? If so looks like I will need "Translators" group access to allow clean up in there (from what I can tell editinterface allows editing pages in the "created" status under the incubator extension). Please let me know how to best proceed. Please ping me if replying here. Best, Xaosflux (talk) 15:35, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Part 2, some of the errors are technical errors related to the translation extension that I can help with as well, but will need "translation administrator" access to mark version. If granting, please assign this group to my main account, not the bot account as it will always be 100% manual. I have translation administrator experience and access on meta: and wikidata: (see Special:CentralAuth/Xaosflux). Thanks. Xaosflux (talk) 15:53, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
If I need to file at Incubator:Administrators#Other_requests for community review just let me know, always want to abide by community norms! Xaosflux (talk) 15:55, 6 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi, [[User:Xaosflux}]]. Just a couple of things:
  • editinterface doesn't allow editing pages in the "created" status. In fact, the only thing that you can do with pages in "created" tests is to leave them alone or delete them. (I know this because as a sysop I have that right, but I cannot edit those pages. I assume stewards and system administrators could, if we really needed them to.) But don't worry about these tests (Wp/inh, Wp/lfn and Wp/gor), as they will be deleted soon.
  • Put up a request for translation administrator at I:RFP as you suggested. I don't really need to wait five days to say yes, but I'm not on my account with rights now anyway. So this way there will be a request, and then an approval, and all will be kosher. I'll grant the next time I'm on with my regular account after you've posted the request. Date of creation of a project and last edits

Hello StevenJ81, I wanted to let a message on the talk page of Template:Tests/row but it seems it is not possible. Anyway, I was thinking about adding in this template the date of creation of the incubator project, so that we can see easily from pages like this one which project are quite old and which projects are really new. I think it could be also interesting to see (maybe not within this template) when was the last edits in each projects. The goal would be to see easily which projects are active and which ones are sleeping. What do you think? Pamputt (talk) 21:23, 27 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Pamputt: You have to be a sysop to create an unprefixed page in the Template (or Template talk) namespace. Sorry.
I'd like to think on this a bit. Really, I can think of reasons it would be really great, and reasons I'm not as interested:
Idea Pros Cons
Starting date
  • See which projects are old and which new
  • Should be necessary to do only once ever per test project
  • That's a matter of curiosity, but doesn't have a practical use. We do not delete inactive tests just because they are old.
  • It is not obvious on most test projects, so unless you can write a script to pull the data, it would take a lot of manual work. I suspect that would mostly fall on me, unless you're volunteering.
Date of last edit This is closer to an actual need, as activity drives (a) inclusion in the table, and (b) approvability.
  • I tend to use page creation, rather than activity, as the criterion. Sometimes, people just come and fiddle with pages. Sometimes people will do things like update the name of the Prime Minister, but not really be doing much for the project. And it takes three regular contributors, not one occasional contributor, to make a project eligible for consideration for approval.
  • There are people whose contributions I can ignore when I do things manually. Like me. (My edits are always administrative, even if I create a page.)
The easiest way to get information on any individual test project—its first edit, its activity history, and its page count—is:
  • Click on that table where it says "show". This displays the info page for the test.
  • Click on the link there that says "Test wiki activity".
Unless you can do what you have suggested in a way that is fully automatic, I can't see it as worth the effort. If you can automate it, and if it can handle some of the specific things I've mentioned above, I could see a value in it.
I have one other suggestion, though, if you have expertise in coding. For a long while, User:Danny B. ran several maintenance and information tools here. One can be found at Incubator:Test statistics. Maybe the thing to do is simply to try to see if you can get this up and running again. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:51, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the detailed investigation. I would say that for now I have no time to spend on this but for later (probably July or August) I could be interested in. I already created some bots but never for looking at edit but I think I can manage. So, I will come back to you once I will have time to look at it closely. Thanks for work here. • I took the liberty of adding a link to your Wiktionary test to your Meta user page. If you don't like it, just undo my change.
  • I'm going to create a template to make your work go a little faster, since you seem to be using the same reference for every page. If you type {{subst:Wt/csm/ref}} after your last definition, that will automatically paste in the following (not the box, just what's in it):

References

  • L. S. Freeland -l·i- Sylvia M. Broadbent, Saclan liwá·- ča·majy- ˀičáˀ sykýˀ-ja- (1960)

I hope you find that helpful.
I do need to ask you a question, though: Are you copying definitions out of a copyrighted book? That could be a problem. See, for example, Meta:Copyrights and Wiktionary:Copyrights. Please let me know if you have any questions about that subject.

@Sraiki:
  • I just checked 20 random pages on your test. A little over half are still stubs. You're getting there, but you're not there quite yet. Approval does NOT depend only on quantity of pages, but also quality.
I'll add: few of those pages had any references in them, and a couple of the references I saw would not normally be considered reliable enough (such as blogs). PLEASE: Don't create new pages. Add more content to the pages you have already, and then add references. PLEASE.
By the way, the numbers you are calling "Latin" numerals we would actually usually call Arabic numerals, as they are different from Roman numerals. The numerals you are referring to are usually called Eastern Arabic numerals in English. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:34, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

shi issues

@StevenJ81: Hello. I don't understand why shi is the only language which has a weird name display: Tašlḥiyt/ⵜⴰⵛⵍⵃⵉⵜ. And while looking for shi language in the menu there are two links for this language, and it's always the challenge to click on the right one, because the other one seems to be broken, I don't know. We just want a single button to click on for our language like any ther language, and we would like it to be this one: ⵜⴰⵛⵍⵃⵉⵢⵜ.

There is also this broken converter Latin-Tifinagh and vice versa that exists in Wp/shi. you can find it right after the Talk button, in any shi article. We would like it to be removed, it does not correctly convert characters, there is actually some incompatibility between the two scripts. We also find it somewhat humiliating for both orthographies; overschematic.

Merci. J'attends votre réponse. Amara-Amaziɣ (talk) 17:59, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Calling @User:Amire80 for help. The converter exists in translatewiki.net, but I'm not otherwise really sure where the problems exist. Amir is the expert on such things. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:07, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi Amara-Amaziɣ,
I'm not sure that I understand: You want the name to be "ⵜⴰⵛⵍⵃⵉⵢⵜ", but almost all the pages under Wp/shi have titles in the Latin alphabet. What is the reason for this difference?
In translatewiki I see translations in both Latin and Tifinagh alphabet. See here. This is not right. It's possible to split the different alphabets and allow translation in both, but they really shouldn't be mixed together.
If most people who read and write in this language use Tifinagh, then it should be Tifinagh. If most people use Latin, then it should be Latin. If both Latin and Tifinagh are used by many people, then we'll need some technical solution. Please let me know. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 10:56, 21 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Did you already check the imported tests? --OWTB (talk) 14:11, 24 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

It looks like the Catanalysis is down once again... :( --OWTB (talk) 09:28, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Yeah. As you can see, I did all the under-5's (by manually checking!) and the over 25's, except where there is a prospect of actual eligibility. but those, and in-betweeners, have to wait. who does this get reported to? StevenJ81 (talk) 11:42, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I think User:Pathoschild is the one who created the tool. --OWTB (talk) 11:43, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wn/az

Hi! Have we a opportunity to hasten process of opening of a Azerbaijani Wikinews on az.wikinews.org? The number of the pages on Wn/az is growing and I think that it will be diffucult connect many pages to wikidata items, if we don't open the project now.--White Demツnyo! 21:44, 28 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Please respond--Rufet Turkmen (talk) 23:51, 30 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
The tool I need to use to check this is down. However, as I recall, there is not a wide enough group of people contributing for long enough yet. You are on the right track, but not quite there yet. Keep up the good work. (Also, watch soon for a notice on I:CP about Wikidata access.) StevenJ81 (talk) 11:46, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Rufet Turkmen, White Demon: Tool is back up, and I can confirm the previous. You need at least three registered users making at least ten edits each over at least three consecutive months, and continuing on until approval. Right now only August 2018 reaches that standard, though April and June were close. (See this page for details.) But you're getting close. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:15, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

bto

Hi, May I ask? What are the requirements to approve a wiki.? Hmm. Bto - rinconada bikol is almost long here. I hope it is approved as a wiki --

Regards, --ShiminUfesoj (talk) 16:51, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@ShiminUfesoj:
  1. There needs to be a community active in working on the project. We generally define this as 3 or more registered editors making 10 or more edits each for a period of at least 3 consecutive months, and then continuing until the project is approved.
  2. You need to translate the interface. That means that at minimum, the most-used MediaWiki messages, as well as enough additional messages in the core MediaWiki messages group to reach 13% of the total messages, must be translated at translatewiki.net
  3. There has to be enough encyclopedic content in your test that we can reasonably call it an "encyclopedia". This is a little subjective. But right now, while your project has a lot of pages, they are nearly all geography pages, and they are nearly all stubs. They need to be more diverse, and they need to be more filled out as full encyclopedia entries.
If you have other questions, please let me know. StevenJ81 (talk) 17:08, 31 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why simple-fr instead of fr-simple?

AFAIK, simple is a correct IANA language subtag according to [2]:

%%
Type: variant
Subtag: simple
Description: Simplified form
Added: 2015-12-29
%%

but the rule of BCP47 is "ISO language code"-"subtag", not subtag first, so isn't the place that you created announcement a violation of BCP47? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 22:42, 26 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

How is your experience seeing the demo there? I get "insecure connection".--Jusjih (talk) 02:32, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Jusjih: That's what I saw, and when I overrode that warning, I got a 502 Bad Gateway. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:39, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much for your answer. Then Structured Wikiquote does not even work.--Jusjih (talk) 02:40, 23 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
m:Wikidata/Development/Wikiquote seems to be a much better idea to collect multilingual quotes. Hopefully it will be successful. Then I would like to close out Wq/mul and give up my importing right at that time, not now yet. Thanks for past supports.--Jusjih (talk) 01:16, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Tacawit wt as a independent project from the incubator ?

Good Day Steven, I have a question about a new project of the Tacawit WT. The project exists in the incubator since May 2018, and we have 1500 words in the Wiktionary. the three last months we had 5 users that had more than 10 contributions per month. And we do 4 presentations about incubators projects in the Wikis conferences. Wikimania 2018 Cape town by Emna and by Ahmed Houamel, Wiki Conference in Saint Petersburg Russia 2018 by Me (as example), WikiIndaba 2018 Tunisia (as example) and WikiConvention francophone (as example). And Soon we will have a MOOC for this project.

We have done a lot for this project and we will do even more. The question is, have we a chance to see this project independently from the incubator soon? if not what can we do for that?

Thank you in advance--Reda Kerbouche (talk) 15:43, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

I'll have a look in the next couple of days. Do check the interface translation at translatewiki.net in the meantime. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:32, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Reda Kerbouche: Just a quick question here: Is the policy of the project going to be that only shy-Latn will be allowed, or do you eventually expect to allow shy-Arab and shy-Tfng? StevenJ81 (talk) 16:02, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
The project is only for the Shy-latn because of this script is the official one in Algeria. Maybe in the future (10 years), we will add in shy-tfng if it will be a second official script. For shy-Arab it will never be taken since there is no source in Tacawit with arab script.--Reda Kerbouche (talk) 16:40, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Reda Kerbouche, Amire80: Fine. Good enough.
Amir, I think this project is about ready to go to LangCom. Only thing is that its translations haven't been downloaded from translatewiki to WMF yet. The reason, I think, is that the translations are all coded over there as shy-Latn, instead of just plain "shy". Can you help us fix that? StevenJ81 (talk) 13:50, 4 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Reda Kerbouche: I'm going to go ahead and put this in front of LangCom. Please keep in mind the following:
  • Like all first-projects-in-language, this will require language verification. Please be prepared to name an academic or professional linguist—preferably one without strong ties to your test—whom LangCom can consult if it can find no expert on its own.
  • We're going to have to resolve the fact that the translations are living at shy-Latn and not shy. I don't think that's difficult, but it's just an extra complication.
  • Would you want the fallback language to be French? Arabic? English? something else?
  • There are three already-approved projects ahead of you at phabricator (Wt/yue, Wn/li, Wp/shn). There are two other projects that are effectively approved, pending only language verification (Wp/hyw—but much content for that will come from hy:—and Wp/skr). So it may take a while to get you up to the point of project creation. Just please be patient. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:45, 8 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
I will wait for, no problem and I will prepare all that you write to me here. We will use the fallback language in French--Reda Kerbouche (talk) 09:49, 9 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wt/diq wy/diq

We want to open these project. Okey, I accept, we are only two-three user. We are not perfect but our work remains inconclusive. Xorasan (talk) 09:55, 20 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Xorasan: There is a specific rule about this: there must be three registered users each making ten edits per month over three consecutive months. The purpose of this rule is to ensure that there is really a community supporting a project, and that a project is not just the work of one or two people. So if you really want to open these projects, please meet that requirement. (And even better: see if you can get additional contributors from the Wikipedia community to participate.)
Additionally: you need to continue to make progress on translating the interface at translatewiki.net. (See translatewiki:Special:LanguageStats/diq.) In particular, I would request that you and team do the following:
  • Fix or confirm the five messages marked "outdated" in the "MediaWiki (most important messages)" group
  • Try to do at least another 200–300 of the untranslated messages in the "MediaWiki core" group
Thank you for your interest and your hard work here. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:56, 20 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wp/Mas

Hi Steven. I know it has to be in Maa language, sorry for that. I don't have a knowledge on the language but I am orienting a couple of Tanzanian and Kenyan collaborators that are interested in the project. The issue with them is, they are not familiar with the interface of Incubator. If it is possible, I would ask for some time - it just takes time to get all terms translated. But I am not sure if I have broken some rules, please let me know. Thanks.--Diotime (Doutes, aide...) 06:00, 30 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wp/avk, typographie

Steven bonjour.

Axel xadolik (talk) 17:39, 3 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Test adminship

Hi Steven. I requested the test adminship at wt/min back in October, and you said it would be untimely before it has 45 to 50 articles. Considering the recent growth, would you please reconsider my request? Thank you! Muhraz (talk) 12:15, 20 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
