Demande d'aide de traduction

[edit source]

Salut Monsieur Amara-Amaziɣ !

Pouvez-vous svp m'aider à traduire cet article en Amazighe Standard Marocain?

Votre aide sera très avec reconnaissance appréciée, Merci beaucoup. --Philip J (talk) 23:11, 3 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

[edit source]

That was all fine, and thank you for the edits. Just one thing to keep in mind: The English language renderings of the language names link to articles on English Wikipedia. And so a couple of things have to happen all at once:

 • Policy on English Wikipedia is that names used are the most common name in English sources.
 • Policy here is that if you prefer a different version of the name (say, a preferred endonym), that's completely fine.
 • We don't want to break the link to the enwiki article.

It turned out that you broke one link. See the change I made; the parameter |article=... always lets you preserve the link, even if you change the name. Thanks for your understanding going forward. StevenJ81 (talk) 22:43, 21 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@StevenJ81: Thanks for your message. Indeed, I was making sure not to break any link, but I ended up breaking Tashelhit language link unexpectedly. I don't know why exactly, because I made sure that Tashelhit redirects to the article of this language. I also corrected the link of tzm that was linking to the major Amazigh language, while it's about Central Atlas Amazigh. This may be the reason why tzm wikipedia test was used as Standard moroccan Amazigh. I also preferred endonyms as you noticed. Thanks for letting me know about the parameter |article=.... --Amara-Amaziɣ (talk) 14:38, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Requests for deletions

[edit source]

Hi, Amara-Amaziɣ.

I went through the ones from rif so far, but not the ones from shi. Among the ones from rif, I deleted some and reversed some. I agree that the ones you asked to have deleted didn't look meaningful. But they do have incoming links. So those links need to be redirected somewhere else before I can delete those pages. Please also look through the requests from shi to check for incoming links (use ⧼What links here⧽ to check) before requesting page deletions. Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:36, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@StevenJ81: Thanks for your clarification, and for the What links here tip, I never knew this tool. So I did as you said, checking whether the pages in shi have incoming links or not, and I canceled some requests, until I fix their content. But one thing is sure, and that is shi needs one hell of a cleaning; none meaningful content, poor language, poor translations, bad grammar, bad orthography... You name it. It is chaos right here. My mission is to restructurate shi. --Amara-Amaziɣ (talk) 19:59, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
That's a worthy mission. I'll help as I can. To help me help you, please remember the following:
 • Don't replace content with the delete template, just add the template to the top. I need to be able to see the current content, and prefer not to need the extra step it takes to go to the page history to see it.
 • If you think a page is salvageable but needs a new name, move it and fix it, instead of rewriting it. We prefer to keep intact edit histories when possible.
 • Please review criteria for speedy deletion. That a page is too short is not by itself a reason to delete; it can eventually be lengthened. If the language is incorrect, if the page is junk, or just a test, that's a different matter, and the line between the two isn't always obvious. Fixing is usually a better first option, but if you feel you need to start over, then do that.
 • If a page doesn't fit the criteria for speedy deletion, nominate it for deletion at I:RFD instead. Or get a second opinion from another Incubator contributor active in Amazigh tests; if you get a second opinion and agree a page needs to be rebuilt from scratch, I'll go along with that.
Thank you for being willing to fix this project! StevenJ81 (talk) 03:24, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Note

[edit source]

I didn't roll it back, but it's best to leave archive pages alone. StevenJ81 (talk) 22:25, 22 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Two pages in "Help" user space

[edit source]

Hi, Amara-Amaziɣ:

In June, you moved a couple of pages into Help: namespace:

On Incubator, only Incubator help pages go into Help: namespace. Project help pages go into mainspace. So please move as follows (either option):

 • ⵏ ⵢⵉⵙⵎ
 • Wp/zgh/Help:ⵜⵓⵎⴰⵢⵉⵏ

or

 • word for Help:ⵉⵍⵙ ⵏ ⵢⵉⵙⵎ
 • word for Help:ⵜⵓⵎⴰⵢⵉⵏ

Many thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:08, 9 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@StevenJ81: I have just read your message. Bien compris. I'm gonna proceed with that soon. Amara-Amaziɣ (talk) 14:31, 11 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Done. Amara-Amaziɣ (talk) 22:58, 28 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Deletion requests ("Wiktionary content")

[edit source]

Did you copy such pages into the Wiktionary test? StevenJ81 (talk) 13:28, 11 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

@StevenJ81: No I didn't. In my estimation, it isn't worth being moved to the Wiktionary test. There aren't many translations, and they are very poor ones anyway. Sorry for replacing the content with the delete template, instead of adding it in the top, I forgot what you've told me, I'll keep it in my mind next time. Amara-Amaziɣ (talk) 14:25, 11 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK. Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:28, 11 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wp/shi/timura imsuwutan

[edit source]

Hi! :) I can't delete this page (yet). The reason you cited was "ambiguous title", however, it is still linked from a massive number of pages. Please make sure these links are fixed/removed, so this page won't be created again. --OWTB (talk) 08:57, 14 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Got it. Thanks. Amara-Amaziɣ (talk) 23:01, 28 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Wp/shi/Tifinaɣ

[edit source]

Similar issue with this one. You cited "author request", but there are still a lot of incoming links (Special:WhatLinksHere/Wp/shi/Tifinaɣ). That having been said, in this case I would strongly recommend doing the following:

 • Fix all links on mainspace pages (and in templates and categories).
 • Because (a) this page also has a lot of incoming links from user talk pages, and the Tamazight-script version of the page name might make no sense on those talk pages, and (b) this page has a pretty extensive editing history, it would be much better to turn it into a redirect instead of deleting it. (Consider en:WP:Redirects are cheap.) To do so, make the page itself look like this:
#REDIRECTWp/shi/ⵜⵉⴼⵉⵏⴰⵖ
Note: this redirect should not be deleted, due to (a) page history retention and (b) incoming links from user talk pages.

The note below the redirect won't affect the functioning of the redirect. But do fix the incoming links first.
Ping if you have any questions. StevenJ81 (talk) 15:55, 6 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Totally right! That was stupid of me. Even if you had deleted the page, I would have created another one with the same name that redirects to Wp/shi/ⵜⵉⴼⵉⵏⴰⵖ. I guess I was being impulsive. Thanks. Amara-Amaziɣ (talk) 19:09, 6 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

NP. As for Category:Wp/shi/Idγarn Lmrruk, there is a cross-namespace incoming link from Wp/shi/Wikipedia:Amawal, and I can't really guess how you'd like it handled. StevenJ81 (talk) 21:34, 6 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
