I will take care of it later today. But see below: I probably need to merge histories first.
It looks like ~~you~~ someone copied the content to a correctly spelled page, then you marked this for deletion. Better in the future to move the page and correct its spelling, then request the redirect left behind to be deleted. Otherwise, for documentation purposes, I am really supposed to merge the edit histories, which is not the easiest thing in the world to do.
- It may have been User:Anontamon who did this, so I am pinging.
Please don't delete the redirect code. Just add {{delete}} to the top.

Effective approval of Shan Wikipedia[edit source]

@Saimawnkham: For both:
A member of LangCom actually knows Shan, and thought very highly of what you've done. So effectively LangCom has approved the project. I cannot mark it approved on Meta, nor start the phabricator task, until the full seven-day notice period on Meta is complete, which will be this coming Wednesday. While we're waiting, let me bring a couple of points, requests, etc., to your attention:

On the Meta request page, please fill in the fields for "Project namespace" and "Project talk namespace".
Please consider carefully the question of whether you really wish to allow media uploads. This is not allowed unless your project creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) defining the rules for media files. Consider that your project will have access to all files in Commons, and that any file eligible for Commons should be uploaded there anyway, even if you have an EDP in place. Accordingly, only non-free files would be uploaded to your project. And believe me—I did this on Ladino Wikipedia—managing non-free files is a lot of work.
- At minimum, even if you allow file uploads, I would start by allowing file uploads by admins only. This way you have some control over what files get uploaded. Change the setting from "yes" to "admin" in that case.
- Better yet, just change it to "no". You can always create an EDP and change your mind later. But you'll probably have plenty to keep you busy right now without worrying about managing media files, too.
Many of the people involved in creating new wikis are volunteers, too. Please be patient. There are two other approved projects ahead of you, and one that will be close behind. Keep working here in the meantime.
Your test-admin status does not automatically become administrator status on the new project.
- If one of you immediately requests admin status, MF-Warburg, who is a steward, will probably immediately grant it for one month so that you can help clean up the transition from Incubator to your own subdomain.
- Beyond that, you need to create a "Request for Adminship" page (or equivalent) on your new wiki, and open a discussion there. It needs to go seven days. If your community supports you (likely), you then go to m:SRP to ask the stewards to turn on the administrator rights. Normally, people who have been test-admins get to start with a six-month term, and then on subsequent requests that length of time can be lengthened.
Finally, LangCom's Shan speaker mentioned the issue of coding for your project. He's happy you're using Unicode, but has some concerns in the future that some people may start adding content coded differently that will look like gibberish. (See this comment.) You don't necessarily need to do anything now, but you should think about it. Understand that forcing people to write using a Unicode version may freeze out some potential contributors (which is not good), but on the other hand allowing people to use different coding will make your lives more complicated going forward. Just something to consider.

Concerning file uploads, I would draw your attention to lad:Vikipedya:Exemption Doctrine Policy/en, which I wrote for Ladino Wikipedia. In particular, note the following points:

The definitive policy is the English Wikipedia policy. I would suggest making that true even if you translate it completely into Shan (which obviously I didn't do in Ladino). After all, enwiki will keep its policy up to date, and you won't have time, energy, or (probably) expertise to worry about the details. So make the enwiki version definitive, with a promise to translate periodically (annually?).
Outline whatever modifications to that you intend for Shan Wikipedia. The modifications are unlikely to change much over time, and will be easy for you to manage locally.

With respect to the three I outlined: You have already established #2 (by using "admin"). You should certainly adopt #1; there is no reason that truly free content shouldn't go on Commons—especially because anyone can upload there. With respect to #3, you'd replace "Israel" and "Turkey" with "Burma" and "Thailand" (and "China"?).

In any event, always encourage people to try to find free content first. You'd be surprised, sometimes, at what is actually available on Commons.

Can you try to get the Wiktionary (Wt/kjp) up to maybe 15 pages or so in the next little bit? If it stays at 3 pages I'm going to mark it "on hold, pending the availability of a contributor community". I'd much rather just be able to mark it eligible now.
Do you want to expand your test-admin responsibilities to include these two? If so, apply at I:RFTA. The Wikipedia is big enough to have a test-admin, and once you are a test-admin there you can be one on the Wiktionary, too. shn.wikipedia was imported[edit source]

Hi, I imported all content from Wp/shn to shn.wikipedia.org now. Please tell me if anything is missing or wrong, and please inform other users about it. The wiki can now be edited. I had to delete some pages which were created before the import, but they can be restored now if needed (cf. shn:Special:Log/delete). I have given you temporary adminship for one month as you were a test-admin. If you want to continue to be an admin on the new wiki, please make a local request and bring it to m:SRP after at least 1 week. Changing cases of text[edit source]

I have recently seen you moving the pages in Khowar test wiki so as to start each of the template name in uppercase. I have a small suggestion. Please do check the option 'Leave a redirect behind' so that in cases where lowercases are used, do not generate any red link. Also, you need to tag that redirect page (the source page) with the category 'Wp/khw/Redirects to be deleted later' which can be deleted once the prefixes are removed. Where templates are concerned, that is a very good idea. People aren't so careful all the time about making sure their template calls start with a capital letter, especially because once a project is moved to a subdomain, template calls with lower case letters work (excepting Wiktionary). Good luck with your nomination. I'm personally in favor, but don't want to comment on the public page immediately so as not to bias the results—particularly if I am going to be the likely closer.

Here's one little question, though. Your user page shows "en-2". Now, I've never had any trouble communicating with you in English, and your English (in my view) is just fine. But English is the working language administrators use, and if you look at I:Administrators/List by languages spoken, you'll see that every other sysop at least claims level 3 or higher in English. Asking for guidance[edit source]

Hello, I got a question Wikimedia introduced Balochi language as a macrolanguage and except it's own there are three main dialects (bgp, bcc & bgn) available for Balochi on Wikimedia. And all of this 3 one have their own test versions on Wikimedia Incubator. I was curious is there any chance to extend the Balochi language, which is the original Test version of Balochi language on Wikimedia Incubator and get confirmed by Wikimedia or while that three dialect's test versions are available it couldn't be confirmed? Pages are now imported to mnw.wiktionary.org[edit source]

Hi, all Wt/mnw content from Incubator should now be on the new wiki, so it should be ready for use. If you see any pages that are missing, please inform me so it can be fixed. However, when a wiki has just been created, there are can be some problems at the start. This is because some things can only be set up after the wiki has been created. Normally they will all be solved within 2 weeks, usually much faster. The problems that I am a aware of are:

Visual editor may not work properly in the beginning. You should be able to create new pages with visual editor, but editing existing pages with it may show an error message or just a blank page. In that case, use the source editor instead.
Wikidata support (both for interwiki links and for fetching info via modules) is not yet enabled.
Statistics on Special:Statistics, as well as from magic words like {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}, all show 0 even though pages have been imported.
Searching for anything other than page titles does not work yet.

If any of these problems last longer than 2 weeks, or if you notice anything else, please do contact me, and I will help find out how to solve any issues. The same goes if I have missed anything in the import.

Because this is a new wiki, there are no administrators. I suggest you start a page for a community portal, and hold an election for temporary administrators. Once a few users have shown support for one or more users and some time passed, you can request temporary adminship on m:Steward requests/Permissions. Let me know if you need any help.

How we will see unregistered users[edit source]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Pa'O Wikipedia[edit source]

Hi. I just sent an email to langcom asking for comments on approval of Wp/blk. Not sure, but I expect positive results for this.

For a smooth approval process, I would like to ask if you know of any experts who can give us advice regarding this language. In order to go through the verification process for this language, it is necessary to collect the opinions of related experts such as linguists related to this language. Your help on Karen mobile phone auto-completion keyboards[edit source]

Dear Sir,

Together with a friend at Microsoft I have made about a dozen mobile phone predictive keyboards for minority Asian languages. There is one for S'gaw Karen, but it uses the Christian orthography. It looks to me like you have created quite a few pages using the Buddhist orthography, and that you maybe have also worked on Pa'o Karen?

We could use these wikipages to make a keyboard, but we need to have the text broken into separate words. Is there any possibility that you would be willing to collaborate with me to prepare the data necessary to make a S'gaw keyboard that uses Buddhist orthography? It does not take very much work.
