Statistics of test-wikipediae

I put a list of momentary active wikipediae and their size here. --Pyt 09:21, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So much Dutch

With the "Random page" function I hit loads of articles in Dutch (no special Dutch, old or Caribbean or so). Are they a remainder from old Incubator times? --Hellsepp 20:11, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dutch? I can't find any.. Could you give any examples? --OWTB 08:34, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

uum + zza

Browsing thru the list I noticed two entries that might need clean-up: there's a line concerning a test wiki in Urum which in fact doesn't exist and then the test wiki for Zazaki is still listed even though that Wikipedia was created some years ago. It was probably forgotten that it should be removed. --Saberon 09:06, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
P.S.: Same goes for "Elvish" (qya) which probably wouldn't be allowed anyway. --Saberon 09:21, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Number of articles

I propose to make a coloumn in the table of projects with the number of articles of each project with a templates (for brusing automatically up). What do you think about it?--Andrijko Z. 15:44, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Do we have any automated inexpensive tools with which to count those articles, akin to {{NUMBEROFARTICLES}}? {{PAGESINCATEGORY:Wp/enm}} and its shorter version {{PAGESINCAT:Wp/enm}} might do, but are unfortunately marked "expensive" at m:Help:Magic words, so using them en masse on this project's Main Page without the approval of a developer would be a very BAD THING™.   — Jeff G. ツ 04:33, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Apart from that, PAGESINCATEGORY is counting all items in a category including sub-categories, IIRC, therefore making the count wrong. --MF-W {a, b} 21:08, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know. I think that if we have this coloumn, we can say about the project how it's developping (with all these categories etc.). We can write below that this number shows also all the categories, templates etc.--Andrijko Z. 22:05, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wp/qvs

The language San Martín Quechua or Lamas Quechua is an existant Quechua variety in Peru, the start page is okay [1]. But as soon as you "enter the test" [2] you won't find a single word of Quechua in the Wp/qvs incubator. There is only one article with one sentence at all (no Quechua) [3]. The red links are not Quechua either. I wonder if "Qiv'vorin" (see: Name, Local) is really a language at all. The link Quivorina (see: Name, English) goes to Lake Junín, a lake in Peru (but not in the San Martín Region). That's strange, too. I think it would be better to take the whole line about Wp/qvs out of this Main Page as well as the link to the incubator page in the Lamas Quechua article of the en:WP. Nobody has ever edited anything in Lamas Quechua in the Wp/qvs pages. -- CaTi0604 06:13, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have replaced the wrong contents by a short text in Lamas Kichwa (or, I must admit, a kind of mixture of Southern Quechua and Ecuadorian Kichwa, which comes quite close to it). But maybe it makes no sense if there is no speaker of Lamas Kichwa. Maybe it should be deleted? -- AlimanRuna 14:53, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Look at this diff: the qvs test wikipedia is obviously a fake: [4] and this: Special:Contributions/208.108.221.87, Special:Contributions/208.108.223.201. -- AlimanRuna 15:00, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And this fake Wp/qvs/Qiv'vorin vori should be deleted. -- AlimanRuna 15:43, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would let the other administrators decide on this first. If they think this page should be deleted, they can delete it, but I am on the safe side lest someone disagrees with the speedy deletion without seeing this page. Hydriz 16:13, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since qvs is a variety under the Kichwa language, I deleted the two pages and redirected Wp/qvs to Wp/qug. SPQRobin 23:45, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with the table of projects

Some of the links in the analysis column do not work, since they are using the mask of m:Language subcommittee/Status/(Project)/(Language code). The analysis belonging to the Danish Wikinews (or the Greek one) can be reached through m:Language committee/Status/(Project)/(Language code). I do not have the stamina right now to find them in the code.

I also have a translation problem with the table, as I could not find the place where I could have translated the headers of Incubator, Name, info page. Could you help me with a link or a hint? - Xbspiro 00:30, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would also like to translate the [Show] button, assuming that it is possible. - Xbspiro 00:35, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The links to the analyses now no longer go to the subcommittee pages (the place to fix this was Template:Tests/row). You can now translate "Incubator", "Meta", "Name" and "info page" too, please see this diff for the parameters' names. I'm still trying to figure out if the "show" button can be made translatable. --MF-W {a, b} 15:00, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! - Xbspiro 14:30, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pashtun Wikipedia

Hi, is there a project or interest in creating a seed for a Pashtun (Afghan) Wikipedia? Cheers, Ocaasi 17:50, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if you mean Pashto, there is already a Wikipedia. SPQRobin 10:28, 17 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question

"How to start a new Wiki?" This is incorrect. The correct phrasing is "How do/can I start a new Wiki?" Interchangeable 01:28, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Probably a Dutchism than :) Where did you find this? --OWTB 17:04, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Why is it incorrect? I've seen a lot of wordings like "How to start xyz", e.g. m:Help:How to start a new Wikipedia, [5]... --MF-W {a, b} 17:59, 10 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect Chinese translation for "The Free Encyclopedia" on Wikipedia's homepage

Hi Wiki Admin!

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct section, anyway I noticed the Chinese translation for "The Free Encyclopedia" on Wikipedia's homepage is 自由的百科全書.

There are 2 meanings for Free in Chinese language:

1. Free - 自由 - means freedom, unrestrained

2. Free - 免费 - means does not cost money, i.e. free of charge

I believe the "Free" in "The Free Encyclopedia" is referring to no cost involved. i.e. free of charge for everyone.

In this sense, the correct Chinese translation for "Free" should be 免费 and not 自由.

Furthermore, 自由的百科全書 would not make any sense to a Chinese speaking person.

Thanks!--202.156.187.19 06:15, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Change

Hello, when change a test wiki into a real wiki? thanks — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.93.225.240 (discussioncontribs) 14:23, 22 February 2013 (UTC).[reply]

Greetings, this happens after the Language committee approves a wiki, i.e. when it is active enough. Developers will then be asked to create the wiki. --MF-W {a, b} 14:52, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings, thanks, do you know what is "active enough"? Minimum number of user and article? xh 143 pages is real wiki. azb 2.252 pages, qug pages 1745 ect. are not real wiki, why? --217.93.171.117 17:39, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Xhosa Wikipedia was created before Incubator and the current rules existed. For Wp/azb, you can see on the Request on Meta (reachable via that page) that there are problems with the language's eligiblity; For Wp/guc, it is quite a strong test wiki, but for approval the criterion is usually "3 or more active editors over the past few months". It is open to discussion obviously and no hard limit. --MF-W {a, b} 23:01, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Talysh

Dear Admins, I would like to inform you that, our Talysh Wiki Project's name was registered by mistake. It was registered as ‎"толышә зывон". Taking into considiration the fact that, we write articles using latin script, the registration name of the Talysh Wikipedia should be written using Latin Script as well. We don't know to whom to address with this appeal. We ask kindly, to take this into consideration and help us. Thank you very much for your attention! Hi. I've one question: why on Incubator' sub-sites (like: de, en, fr, it, pl, ru) the image of wikidata (last of all icons) is representented by wikipedia icon, instead of it's own, i.e.: this file? 149.156.172.74 13:46, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Finnish Wikivoyage

Hey! I would be glad, if you made Wikiwoyage in finnish, because there is many people in Finland, who do not understand English or other languages well. (In finnish: Olisin iloinen, jos tekisitte Wikivoyagen suomeksi, koska Suomessa on monta ihmistä, jotka eivät ymmärrä kunnolla englantia tai muita kieliä.)--Sentree (talk) 19:06, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Logo to return main page

Should link to Special:Mylanguage/Incubator:Main_Page, why not?--Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:05, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense. Someone could perhaps update Mediawiki:Mainpage? I have never seen Special:MyLanguage being used on any project's main page though. (not Commons, Meta or Wikidata, all of which are multi-lingual projects) --Glaisher (talk) 17:38, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean the logo on the top-left (which is shown on every page)? The Main Page link in the Navigation box (right below it) already links to the Special:MyLanguage version of the Main Page; I think that's sufficient. Not everyone likes to be forced to first see a translated version. --MF-W {a, b} 20:41, 20 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please protect this page

Highly visible pages Some page move vandalism has happened to this page and a few others (such as Incubator:Community portal). Why aren't these just move protected? —Justin (koavf)TCM 02:36, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The page is already protected so that only sysops can move it. --MF-W {a, b} 12:38, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate link?

Perhaps it is just me but there appear to be two links to the Main page at the left of the page. Intentional? Green Giant (talk) 23:43, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean the link in the second box (which is called "Incubator")? That changes depending on your settings, e.g. try to set your test-wiki preference to Wy/ja; then that link will lead to the Wy/ja main page. --MF-W {a, b} 11:03, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah that makes sense. Thanks for the reply. Green Giant (talk) 12:19, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
