Welcome to the Seereer project on Seereer Wikipedia. Thank you for your contribution.

Yoonir : o xoor ole no Seereer we

This is the Wikimedia Incubator stage for newly created languages awaiting hosting on Wikipedia. Once this project is complete, the Wikimedia Foundation, the hosts of Wikipedia will move this Seereer Wikipedia project to namespace and assign it its own URL - just like English, French and Wolof Wikipedia. During this stage, we must always use the project and language prefixes when creating new articles, templates and categories on Seereer Wikipedia. This helps the Wikimedia Foundation determine which project and language your newly created article belongs. Otherwise they wouldn't know, as there are several Wikimedia projects and each project is written in several languages.

The Wikimedia Foundation hosts so many projects. For example there is Wikipedia - the most well known, there is Wikisource, Wikibooks, Wikiquotes, Wikitionary, etc. We hope to utilise some of these with the Seereer Wiki project moving forward. You may also know that there are several Wikipedia languages. For example, English, French, Wolof and Fula Wikipedia. This is why it is important to add the prefix : wp/srr/Title of article when creating new articles on Seereer Wikipedia. The wp mean the Wikimedia project the article refers to, which in this case is Wikipedia. Do not confuse Wikimedia and Wikipedia. They are two completely different things. The Wikimedia Foundation is an organisation whilst Wikipedia is just another project. The srr is the language code for Seereer - each language should have a language code before they can apply to have their own Wikipedia. The two slashes ( / ) make up part of the URL for your newly created article on Seereer Wikipedia. Once this project is moved to article namespace at Seereer Wikipedia, you will no longer be required to add the prefix wp/srr/. Once that happens, all you have to do is go to Seereer Wikipedia and start creating articles as normal (see below for how to create an article). However, for the time being, we must always add the prefix wp/srr/ when creating articles, templates or categories so that Wikimedia knows which project and language your article, template or category relates when the time comes to move them to article namespace at Seereer Wikipedia. Also note that, Wikimedia Incubator currently host several other languages all awaiting approval to be moved to namespace just like Seereer Wikipedia. If you do not add the prefix wp/srr/ followed by the title of the article, it will be lost in the system and no one will be able to find it. You can read more about this below.

OBJECTIVES OF THIS PAGE

This is the page where you can announce newly created articles. Once you have created a new article, please go to the relevant section (below), edit the section by adding the new article and signing your name next to it using four tildes (~~~~). This helps us know who created the article without having to go through the contribution history of the article. First, you will need to sign in or register with Wikipedia by going to this page [1]. Once you have registered, you can come back here and create new articles and your name will automatically appear as the creator after signing your message with four tildes ~~~~. Ensure you are logged in when creating articles otherwise your IP address will appear. Registering with an account protects your IP address.

All the red links below are article titles awaiting creation. To create them, simply click any of them and a new page will open up which you can start editing. Always remember to add references at the bottom. See the Seereer people article — under "Ta inoor na" (sources or references). Once you have created the article and published it using the publish button at the bottom of the page, come back to this page and you will see your newly created article has now turned blue. A red link mean no article has been created yet under that title, and a blue link mean there is an active article under that title.

Now go to the relevant heading where that newly created article is located and click on edit at the top of that section or click the edit feature at the top of the page if making several edits, and sign your name next to it with four tildes ~~~~. Ensure not to delete the article's title or the brackets or prefixes surrounding it. For example this (see below)ː

#[[Wp/srr/Cosaan no Seereer]] created by ~~~~

once saved it will appear as follows:

  1. Cosaan no Seereer created by Tamsier (talk) 18:49, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Now let's go through what each of the parameters mean:

  1. The hash sign ( # ) lists all our articles neatly in numerical order. You use the hash sign when you want to list articles or anything in numerical order instead of writing 1, 2, 3, etc. Adding hash after each line will provide a numbered list for us. In this project, we want to know how many articles have been created under each heading. Feel free to add other headings. Another way to add a list in an article but without numbering is to use the asterisk ( * ).
  2. The opened bracket ( [[ ) and closed bracket ( ]] ) links to an article. Every time you wish to link to another article, you must add the opened and closed bracket next to the title of the article - ensuring that there is no space between them.
  3. As stated above, wp mean the Wikipedia project. The Wikimedia Foundation has many projects and each project has its own prefix.
  4. The slash sign ( / ) makes up part of the URL of the Seereer Wikipedia project and your articles in the Seereer Wiki project. If there are no slashes ( / ) in the prefix, your articles will not be found.
  5. The prefix srr is the language code for Seereer. Since there are so many articles in various languages waiting to be moved to article namespace, if you do not add the srr in your article no one will know about it. It will be lost in the system.
  6. The title mean the title you've chosen to call your article. This is the fun part that many of us know. Whilst the Seereer Wikipedia project is in the incubation stage, your title is preceded by a slash ( / ) which forms part of the prefix. Please ensure that there is no space between the last slash ( / ) and the first letter or character of your title. There should not be any space in the whole prefix wp/srr/. For example, the title for a Seereer culture article should look like this (see below):
wp/srr/Seeereer culture
and the title for Seereer should look like this:
wp/srr/Seereer

HOW TO CREATE A NEW ARTICLE WHICH IS NOT LISTED BELOW?

This is perhaps the most confusing part for many new editors who might like to join the Seereer Wikipedia project but don't know where to start. Please login and ensure that you are on the correct Wikipedia page - which is Seereer Wikipedia in Incubator (this page), and not at English or French Wikipedia. If you post any Seereer text or article on English or French Wikipedia they will delete it because it is a foreign language and you are on the wrong Wikipedia language project. So not to get confused, always come back to this page if you wish to create a new article — following the instructions above and the ones below.

To create a new article not listed below, ensure you login first, then go to the search box at the top right hand corner and enter the prefix: wp/sr/ followed by the title of your article in the Seereer language. For exampleː

wp/srr/Xeet no Seereer

Ensure that you use capital and small letters where relevant. Also ensure that you use the correct characters based on the Seereer alphabet. Once you've pressed enter, it should tell you there is no article available under that title and ask whether you would like to create it. Click on the red text and it will open a new page where you can start writing your article - exactly as above. Once finished, click on Publish to save it.

Noteː Do not worry about the prefix displaying next to your article's title as evident in our list of articles below. Once the Seereer Wikpedia project has been moved to namespace with its own URL, the prefix should disappear and goes from this ː

Xeet no Seereer

to this ː

Xeet no Seereer

Once you've saved your article, come back to this page and announce it to the Seereer Wikipedia community as above. If you see that an article has been wrongly titled, or the headings below are wrong, please fix them or announce it on this article's discussion page [2]. The discussion page can be found on the top left hand corner of this page. If you are using a mobile device, you may need to set it to desktop mode in order to see the discussion or talk page. Also feel free to translate some of the English or French headings or text (below) to Seereer. If you can translate them, remove the English sub-headings or text and change them to Seereer. This is Seereer Wikipedia after all. Be bold! Anyone can edit Wikipedia. You don't need permission.

ADDING CATEGORIES

It is always recommended to add at least one category at the bottom of your new article before or after saving it. You can always go back to your new article and add a category later on. Categories are extremely important. They group all related articles under one category and helps us to find your article. All our categories can be found at Category:Wp/srr [3]. At the very least, you should add this category to your article. This is the root category for all our articles on Seereer Wikipedia. All our categories and sub-categories should be under Category:Wp/srr. If you cannot find the relevant category for your article, you can created one by adding [[Category:Wp/srr/Name of category]] and saving it.

At the bottom of your new article, under the category section, you will notice that the category you've just added to your article is in red, and not in blue - just like an article which has not been created yet. Click on your new category and it will open a new page just like an article waiting to be created. Type in [[Category:Wp/srr]] and save it. Your article and category will now appear on our list of articles and categories. If you need any help, simply ask me at my talk page or ask any member of the community at this article's talk page [4].

TRANSLATING FROM OTHER WIKIPEDIA LANGUAGES TO SEEREER WIKIPEDIA

There are loads of Seereer, Senegambian and African related articles in English and French Wikipedia. They have all been grouped into categories. Please go through them and their sub-categories and translate as many articles as you possibly can to this project. Also, feel free to fix errors, add sources or expand short articles (stubs) whilst you are there.

Whilst going through some of the list of articles below (in red), you may see some of them with blue links next to them like this :

Whenever you see that link beside a red link, it means that an article has already been created about the subject at English and/or French Wikipedia and you can translate it. Follow the link and translate the article to Seereer Wikipedia. After you have translated the article, come back to this page and add translated by ~~~~ next to the article. Do not write created by ~~~~ because you were not the creator, but the translator, unless of course you were the original creator at English or French Wikipedia.

Translate the articles in these categories : From English and French Wikipedia:

Noteː Please modify the introduction once this project has been moved from Wikimedia Incubator to namespace.

#[[Wp/srr/Cosaan no Seereer]] créé par ~~~~

une fois enregistre cela apparait ainsi:

  1. Cosaan no Seereer créé par Tamsier (talk) 18:49, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Maintenant voyons ce que chaque paramètre signifie:

wp/srr/Xeet no Seereer

Xeet no Seereer

a ceci :

Xeet no Seereer

Translate the following articles from English or French Wikipedia to Seereer. Please try and use the Seereer alphabet rather than English or French spelling when naming articles on this project. If you have any problems about naming or spelling - for example which character of the alphabet to use, please ask the community for help. There are plenty of Seereer related articles from French and English Wikipedia. A lot of them have been added to the Seereer people category. Go through the Category:Serer people at English Wikipedia, Catégorie:Sérères at French Wikipedia and translate as much as you can into this project (Seereer Wikipedia). You can also help by fixing or editing Seereer and African related articles at English and French Wikipedia whilst you are there.
