About Wp/izh

[edit source]

Hello. I've seen that you have been doing work on fixing the situation in Wp/izh. However, a lot of the older edits still remain, and should be dealt with in some way. It seems like you might know how to deal with the situation, so please take it into consideration, or if you know anyone else who could do this, let them know about it. This test wiki could grow into an important source for the language, so it's important for it to be dealt with in some way.

Thank you for reading. 2001:14BB:A5:624F:11DB:7F04:D1E:D35F 11:13, 18 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

More about Wp/izh

[edit source]

Hello, I have now tried to delete many of the pages on Wp/izh to try and clean up the situation (not logged in as I'm stupid). I'm extremely sorry for being part of this mess, and I really hope it can get better in the future. It would be the best if you could help me out as I can't really draw the line on what or what not to purge. Thank you very much! Do not interact (talk) 05:43, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Do not interact: Alright, I'll handle this, please leave it alone. Thadh (talk) 08:07, 24 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Uralic server in discord

[edit source]

Hello. Sorry for writing off-topic on Wikipedia. I remember that there was a discord server about Uralic languages. However, my old discord account, from which I was a member of this server, was blocked. Now I'm looking for this discord server again, but I can't find it anywhere. As far as I remember, you were also a member of the server. Therefore, please share the link there. Bumın qahan (talk) 13:49, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Bumın qahan: I'm guessing you're looking for this: https://disboard.org/server/766677684578418708. Thadh (talk) 15:32, 14 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question

[edit source]

Good evening. I'm sorry to disturb you with an off-topic question. I'm really interested in Izorian language but unfortunately I don't speak any. Do you know if there is any good ways to learn? I would love to help with the project but unfortunately I might be very unuseful right now as I only speak Finnish, Swedish and English.

I hope you'll have a good rest of the week! Jaakko.kulta (talk) 20:42, 28 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Jaakko.kulta: Hey! If you look one topic up you'll see a link to a discord server, if you use discord I do recommend you join it :P But if not, here are my main tips:
  1. Use the schoolbooks. There were 31 published in total, with 16 using the written language and 15 using the Soikkola dialect. They're freely accessible in a digitised format on the Fenno-Ugrica website (e.g. here and here). Among them is a grammar of (written) Izhorian in Izhorian.
  2. There are a total of two dictionaries and one (outdated) grammar, which I also recommend. Apart from that, the work by Eva Saar is also mindblowingly good, shows a complete breakdown of the inflectional system of the Soikkola dialect. this work by Natalia Kuznetsova is also the main work for Ingrian phonology.
  3. I've written a number of pages on Ingrian on Wikipedia - W:Ingrian language and W:Ingrian grammar (also W:Ingrian phonology, but that one is not as good imo). You should also look through the reference lists, as they contain very useful materials as well. Do note that they may contain quite a few errors still, as I haven't updated them in a while. I've also been editing the English Wiktionary to form a good English-Ingrian-English dictionary. That, too, can contain a number of errors, but overall should be fine to get a decent grasp of the language.
  4. In case you're very interested, I can also recommend contacting [iling.spb.ru/persons/muslimov-mekhmed-zakirovich Mehmet Muslimov] (he speaks Finnish and English, so you shouldn't have much of a problem in finding a common language), who is a specialist on the Ala-Laukaa dialect of Izhorian and languages of Ingria as a whole.
Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions left, I am glad someone's taking an interest in learning Izhorian! Thadh (talk) 21:58, 28 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Wow amazing! Thank you so much! This helps me a lot. I hope I can learn the language as I was born in the region (although I'm not Izhorian). Jaakko.kulta (talk) 23:15, 3 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
