Does anybody know whats the etymology of Deir Muwas and Samalut? Samalut resembles ⲙⲁⲛⲃⲁⲗⲟⲧ and ⲙⲁⲛⲕⲁⲡⲟⲧ but i couldn't find the origins of the name. ⲡⲁⲣⲇⲁ (talk) 16:36, 22 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

The following variants are found for Samalut: ⲧⲥⲉⲙⲟⲩⲗⲁⲧ, ⲧⲥⲉⲙⲟⲩⲗⲟⲧ, ⲧⲥⲏⲙⲟⲩⲗⲟⲧ, ⲧⲓⲥⲩⲙⲟⲩⲗⲟⲧ, ⲧⲥⲩⲙⲟⲩⲗⲟⲧ, ⲧⲥⲩⲙⲟⲩⲗⲱⲧ, ⲥⲁⲙⲁⲗⲟⲧ. I don't know which one we should take as the Bohairic spelling, but we may take a "neutral" form and given the Greek origin ⲥⲉⲙⲟⲗⲱ, maybe ⲧⲥⲉⲙⲟⲩⲗⲟⲧ? (ⲧⲓⲥⲩⲙⲟⲩⲗⲟⲧ is not the Bohairic form, as it shows up in a document from Wadi Sarga). Information is from "Das christlich-koptische Ägypten in arabischer Zeit" Teil 5 (Q-S). [edit source]

What is our word for "district"? ⲕⲁϩⲓ is used for earth. ⲁⲛⲉⲯⲓⲟⲩⲥⲓⲣⲓ (talk) 15:02, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes ⲕⲁϩⲓ is earth. ⲑⲱϣ for governorate. Never thought about district. ⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ? Is there an Egyptian word? ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 15:16, 8 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
