ⲣⲉⲛϥ

[edit source]

Do you think the Coptic variant of Akhenaten is ⲁϣⲛⲓⲱⲓⲧ? If his name 3ḫ-n-jtn is about aḫanjāti, than this should be ⲁϣⲛⲓⲱⲓⲧ in Coptic, right? Ϯⲙⲉⲗⲗⲓⲥⲏⲧ (talk) 20:09, 14 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

I think aḫanjāti would rather yield ⲁϣⲛⲓⲱϯ. The metathesis of the vowel is weird. I know it shows up in ⲙⲱⲓⲧ, but here the vowel may be original. Maybe we should change it? ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 15:33, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, if ⲁϣⲛⲓⲱϯ is the outcome, then yeah change it. Why not ⲁϣⲛⲓⲱⲧ ? ⲁⲛⲉⲯⲓⲟⲩⲥⲓⲣⲓ (talk) 15:36, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Oh yes, you're right. According to the "Etymological Dictionary of Egyptian" (volume with m-), page 757, final -in (jtn is originally jātin) was also completely dropped in ⲙⲱⲓⲧ, so ⲁϣⲛⲓⲱⲧ is the most likely? ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 15:42, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
So as soon as we are all sure, if will change the respective articles which have the god Aten in their name. ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 16:25, 15 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Karnak and Akhetaten

[edit source]

What name should we use for Karnak? It's ı͗p.t-s.wt in Demotic so i've tried to render it as ⲁⲡⲥⲟⲩ but i'm pretty sure it's no accurate. Also i'm not sure if ⲁϣⲓⲱⲓⲧ is good rendering of Akhetaten. ⲡⲁⲣⲇⲁ (talk) 15:25, 16 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

I will look into a new for Karnak. What do you think is better for Akhetaten? ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 23:28, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
I think the outcome of the Hieroglyphic Egyptian is ⲁϣⲓⲱⲓⲧ indeed. (Maybe ⲁϣⲧⲓⲱⲓⲧ, but im less inclined towards it.) ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 23:30, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
So, the first word is pretty easy: Its atonic form is ⲁⲡ without a doubt. I'm just not sure about sw.t. I will continue to look for more information. ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 23:28, 19 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
