Welcome

[edit source]

Welcome to the Wikimedia Incubator! At the right there are some important links, and here are some tips and info:

  • If you haven't created a user page yet, please create one with for example babel templates on it.
  • You can select your interface language in your preferences.
  • If you make articles, templates or categories, don't forget to add a prefix!
  • If your knowledge of English is good, you can help with translating pages to other language you know, so more people can understand it!
  • If you want to translate the interface, please go to Betawiki, create an account and follow the instructions you will see.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask it on my talk page.

Templates

[edit source]

Hi Thecurran, I have seen that you are copying quite a number of templates from the English Wiktionary for the Noongar Wiktionary. Of course Wiktionary works with templates a lot, and we appreciate your activity there very much, but a few basic templates should suffice so you can begin the real content work. Templates from other wikis often have a complex structure which can be difficult to copy for using it here; and it is not necessary to have all templates right from the beginning, but it's better to develop them over time when they become needed. Best regards, --MF-W {a, b} 13:15, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank U for your response, MF-W. I really just wanted to use the translation template from English to add in Nyoongar -> English and English -> Nyoongar but there're so many templates required to make it work and to make its documentation legible. Every time i think i've got it right i find my test page still looks wrong so i start attacking the red-links and comparing the pages i've written to English Wiktionary. Is there any easier way that i'm bypassing? Thecurran (talk) 13:23, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Do you mean for example the page Wt/nys/ali? That page had the problem that the Incubator-specific prefixes were sometimes missing or at the wrong places (it was very unobivous where they were needed and where not because of the fivefold curly brackets). I managed to fix that in a few attempts.
In general, Special:ExpandTemplates might be a useful tool to understand template structures better. My experience is that looking for links which fail because of prefixes are a major concern. --MF-W {a, b} 14:24, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thank U so much. Words cannot convey my gratitude. Thecurran (talk) 04:13, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
