What is wrong with Abell?
[edit source]This is just name of the galaxy, it can not be translated. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 11:57, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Nothing is wrong with Abell. I was adding the template {{move-page}} to pages with no prefix, and I added it to the redirect, indending to have the redirect page deleted. The template is being added to all non-prefixed pages. Sorry for the confusion. Dbmag9 13:34, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Editing other people's writings
[edit source]If I wrote something - a comment or a vote for something - and signed it with my user name, how can anybody else edit it? What if it was a voting and I voted, for example, support? Can somebody else change it to oppose? That's vandalism, isn't it? And I also believe that comments written and signed by other people can't be edited just like that. Please look at the history of that article. If this is a wiki, does it mean that you can now edit this comment of mine by your own will? Come on! ;) --Djordje D. Bozovic (?) 11:21, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
- I take your point. I had looked at the diff, but I mostly noticed the capitalisation of headings, which seemed fine. I do think that it is bad taste to edit another person's remarks, but it is something that it inherently allowed by the wiki philosophy. That's why we have page histories. However I'm not going to get too annoyed about the capitalisation of somebody's comment. Dbmag9 11:48, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Help: image problem
[edit source]Hello, there is a stange problem in Test-wp/pad/Падонкаффский_йезыг page (this version): image doesn't appear with 'thumb' or width parameters. Maybe this is some wiki bug? Edward Chernenko 08:36, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Possibly - I'd suggest listing it at w:en:Wikipedia:Village Pump (technical). Thanks for noticing it. Dbmag9 14:38, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Vandalism report
[edit source]The 217.19.214.168 anonym does not cease vandal attacks to Siberian wiki, I and Miensku reverted it during all the day, see history of pages. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 20:53, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'll do a range block, hopefully this will solve it. By the way, you can request locking a page at either Dbmag's or my talk page, if you need it. — Timichal • 20:57, 26. Aug 2006
What is a processed wiki?
[edit source]Hello Dbmag9. I noticed you have rolled back my edit in Template:Tests and said "this table is only for processed tests". I'm a little confused: what is a processed wiki?
Still another question: how can a test-wiki turn actural? Is there any criteria? --GnuDoyng 11:24, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
- A processed test is one which has been moved into the new prefix - so wp/something. This is being done by Timichal.
- To answer your second question: At the moment there are no well-defined criteria for making a test into a full language of a project. There are various initiatives and ideas for how this should be done. When it is decided information will be put up over here.
- Thanks for asking! Dbmag9 19:20, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Code bat-ltg
[edit source]No official code assigned to Latgalian in any ISO 639 standard yet, but code lv won't do, because it is used by the regular Latvian (the article Latgalian language is perhaps misleading). Code bat-ltg suggested in analogy with bat-smg - Samogitian, which has its own Wikipedia (Samogitian is similar but not same as Lithuanian). Same with fiu-vro (Voro language) in Estonia. Would appreciate suggestions how to rectify the situation. Kalvis.apsitis 23:19, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit source]Thank you very much for the avvertiment.

Abt moving
[edit source]ज्वजलपा! Thanks a zillion for notifying and reminding me about the pages to be deleted. I have moved the pages to wp/new/page. Is that alright? Plus, if possible please enlighten me about the differences in creating a portal in incubator, if any.--Eukesh 15:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Deleted tests?
[edit source]Hi, I noticed some tests that were here about a month ago are now mysteriously missing. What happened to them? Why were the deleted?
- If they have been untouched for about 3 months, they are deleted. It may be that they have simply been processed and moved into the new prefix: wp/ instead of test-wp/. Hopefully this will solve your problem. Dbmag9 08:53, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- Why exactly are inactive ones deleted? It's not as if there's not room for them. And what if someone comes back later and wants to make a Wiki in that language? What a waste of work! Now that we've just offloaded really all of our most-populated tests, the place is quickly seeming more and more empty, and it certainly couldn't hurt to have them around now, could it?
Gratitude
[edit source]- Thanks a lot for the code--Eukesh 10:38, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome - to be honest I just copied it from test-wp/qya and changed the default text. Dbmag9 10:55, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Two Questions:
[edit source]1. Can we get proceed with our tes-wiki in incubator, in spite of we weren't given a wiki?
2. If yes, if it possible to move the test to BEL. category, as the namespace for test was probably one of the problems, caused new wiki denying - the wiki for the BE namespace exists already. --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 10:19, 1 October 2006 (UTC) Thank you for answers. -- Antos’ Kazmyarchuk 07:56, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- Please, answer the questinons, bcos there's still so much work to do with bel-test, and I wanna know, if i can post new articles to this test. -- Antos’ Kazmyarchuk 10:03, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
It is early morning in England, Antos, Daniel is not online. When he will be online, I will notify him to answer your questions, do not worry --Yaroslav Zolotaryov 10:05, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- Actually nobody says to you quit incubator, I do not know why are you disturbed. I am still belarusian wiki test administrator, and I will defend you from every troubles here--Yaroslav Zolotaryov 10:19, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your questions; sorry for the delay in replying.
- Yes, of course you can proceed with the test on Incubator. The new languages created were, I think, done without looking at Incubator anyway. This is not the way we would have had it done, but it has nevertheless been done.
- The new languages created were made on the basis of discussions at Meta's Requests for New Languages page; we were under the impression that this was no longer operational but it has been done. I don't know why some were chosen over others. I would not advise you to move the pages because bel is simply the ISO 639-3 equivalent of be, and is considered (as far as I know) as the same. I am not sure of the correct code for your test, but in the meanwhile it seems best to leave it.
I hope that these replies are satisfactory. Dbmag9 19:36, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
- I'm curious what gave you the impression that 1) The meta page was no longer operation and that 2) "the way we would have done it" matters particularly, given that developers, not Incubator admins and bureaucrats, are the ones tasked with the actual creation of new Wikipedias. I don't see any particular reason to abandon the old system, it is still perfectly workable. We shouldn't let our heads grow too big -- the purpose of Incubator is to test new projects. --Node ue 01:47, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- My point was that the system on Meta has proven confusing and ineffective at clearly determining whether or not a language should be created. It is vulnerable to 'flash-mobbing' from politically motivated people, and discussions often end up being long, inflammatory and unproductive. You say that developers are those who create the new languages. This is true, but they are not necessararily the ones who have (or should have) authority over what is created. Another failing of the current system is that it asks developers who are not familiar with languages to make a decision about whether or not there is consensus. What I meant by "the way we would have done it" - and it was not a well-chosen phrase - is that currently discussions are underway to determine a new system. In the future, as the current idea stands, Incubator will have a much more important role. Requests to form a new test will be accepted without question once a certain number of users state their willingness to help, and the process after that will be as instant (in the sense that once certain criteria are met, the language is created) as possible. I didn't mean to sound presumptuous, or as though I had any sort of power over the decision process: I don't, although I hope that my views will be taken into consideration when the process is decided. I was merely expressing slight annoyance that this system, which I was lead to believe was defunct, was still being acted upon. Dbmag9 21:06, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Deletion
[edit source]All of the pages have been transferred from the test-wikis by now. They can all be deleted. --Node ue 17:44, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- If you want a mass deletion, please notify Timichal, as he has a useful collection of bots automated for such tasks. Thank you for helping. Dbmag9 20:34, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
Umm
[edit source]Well, it looks like someone recreated the Tripuri WP that you deleted earlier due to supposed "inactivity". http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Test-wp/trp
But they didn't ask for approval. So I suppose now we should delete it because they didn't follow our complicated procedural requirements to create a new test? Or perhaps we should let it stay because it's not doing anything to hurt us and it's in a real language spoken by real people? --Node ue 03:58, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- No; at the moment there is no process for creating a new test, so there are no grounds for deletion. The creation, needless to say, cancels out the previous inactivity. Dbmag9 20:33, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

advice regarding Test wikiepdia
[edit source]Hi I am working on the Konkani Wikiepdia right now. I would like to link an article in the Konkani Wikipedia to a corresponding article in the English article. But i don't understand the process.
Within the establish encyclopedias if I have to link from that article to a version in anothwer article (say French), then I have to put a tag with [[fr:french_lang_article_name]]
I dont think this works with Incubator. Can you help me and point to the relvant documents? --Deepak D'Souza 13:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Its OK. I got it! Thanks anyway!--Deepak D'Souza 13:54, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry I couldn't reply in time, I'm glad you found it out anyway. Dbmag9 20:51, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry to disturb you again but I am clueless about the follwing:
1) How to change the template for the article page (eg the tabs above showing article, discussion etc.)? 2) What is the criteria to turn a Test wikipedia into a regular wikipeida? Thanks, --Deepak D'Souza 11:05, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- 1) There is no real way to change the template without changing it for all users, sorry.
- 2) The test must be reviewed by the Languages Commitee; there is information at m:RFL. Dbmag9 17:58, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- 1) OK. I guess it should be done after it becomes a full fledged wikipeida.
Thanks a million :-) --Deepak D'Souza 10:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Gronings Testwiki
[edit source]Hello,
Could you set up a Testwiki for the Groningen dialect? It is spoken in the north of the Netherlands and is a special dialect of the Low Saxon language, because of the Frisian influences. This is wat ethnologue reports of Gronings:
Gronings A language of Netherlands ISO 639-3: gos

Alternate names: Groningen, Grunnings Dialects: West Groningen (West Gronings), Groningen-East Frisian (Gronings-Oostfries), Veenkoloniaals (Veen Colony), Westerwolds (Westerwold). Classification: Indo-European, Germanic, West, Low Saxon-Low Franconian, Low Saxon Language use: Official language. The primary language of many rural people. Most use Dutch as second language. Language development: Dictionary. Bible: 1987. Comments Implicitly: recognized by the government in 1996 (being part of Low Saxonian).

Be.wp
[edit source]Hi Dbmag9, as it seems Timichal hasn't been active for a very long time now, it seems you might be the proper person to request this to... The Belarusan Test-Wiki is fully moved (except for templates, categories, and the like it seems, but all main namespace articles were moved) to the new domain at [2] (old be.wp was moved to [3]). For this reason all pages in be test-wp main namespace are ready to be deleted, with exception of mainpage which should have message to direct people to newly-created Wiki. --Node ue 22:30, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't have the bot to be able to do this quickly, but I'll try and contact Timichal and pass your message on. Sorry, Dbmag9 13:38, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia Rotuman
[edit source]I've started the test page for Wikipedia Rotuman (see request here and test page here) and would like it listed on this page. How should I go about it? BTW do I need to become an administrator (in meta, en.wikipedia or incubator) to create the new wikipedia, or help it's testpage's development? --Mattbray 06:57, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Request about the Talysh Wikipedia
[edit source]Dear Dbmag9,
We decided to make an appeal to you with one request. For your information, we are currently working on Wikipedia in Talysh Language. The problem we face right now is the issues regarding the script. Right now, Talysh Wikipedia is registered with Cyrillic script. I would like to inform you that, majority of Talysh people living in Azerbaijan use Latin script, as the Latin script is officially accepted by the Republic of Azerbaijan since the alphabet change from Cyrillic to Latin immediately after the Soviet Union's collapse and the country's independence. Now in all schools of Azerbaijan Latin Alphabet is in use and young generation of Talysh people are not able to read Cyrillic alphabet completely. This Talysh Wiki will be followed mostly by young people and if they cannot read Cyrillic script, they will not be able to benefit from the knowledge which Wikipedia ensures. So it's very pity. But the Talysh people of old generation and as well Talyshes who live outside of Azerbaijan can read Latin alphabet. New Talysh alphabet is designed for use in Talysh texts, according to the phonological requirements of this language. So, the the situation is that, the most Talysh people live in Azerbaijan in their Homeland and use Latin alphabet. Talysh people who live in Iran use Persian script and Talysh people who emigrated to Russia use Cyrillic alphabet. But both of them, people who live in Iran and Russia can read Latin alphabet for sure, but the case is that, the young people who live Azerbaijan cannot read Cyrillic alphabet, they only can read Latin. As the majority of Wikipedia readers will be young people from Azerbaijan, they need Latin script for Talysh Wikipedia. So, we would like to ask you kindly to help us with this issue to add Latin script for Wikipedia in the Translatewiki alongside with Cyrillic 'tly' => 'толышә зывон', # Talysh. We would like to have: 'tly' => 'толышә зывон/tolyšə zyvon', # Talysh. So it means to add Latin script use for Talysh language alongside with Cyrillic in this link: http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/phase3/languages/Names.php?annotate=102460#l339 We would suggest to have 3 scripts in use in order to ensure readability for all users of Talysh Wikipedia and to escape any problem that can occur. We consider this is to be the best solution for this problem. We mean like this: 1. 'tly' => 'tolyšə zyvon', # Talysh(Latin) 2. 'tly' => 'толышә зывон', # Talysh(Cyrillic) 3. 'tly' => 'زبان تالشی', # Talysh(Persian) As we know this is in use for Qırımtatarca, Kazakh, Tatar and Serbian Wiki, I mean Latin and Cyrillic scripts. If this is not possible for Talysh Wiki, we would like to ask you to help us in doing it only in Latin , because Latin is readable for everybody (Talysh people who live in Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia, Europe) but Cyrillic is readable only people who live in Russia, not readable for the people outside of Russia. The person who opened Talysh Wiki suggested it in Cyrillic, because he lives in Russia. But we talk to him and he agreed to add Latin or to change it completely to Latin. We just want Azerbaijani Talysh people who use Latin, to benefit from Wikipedia's knowledge. As well, we wonder whether it is possible to do tly-cyrl and tly-latn for both scripts. If it is possible, it would be very useful for both alphabet users. This issue is very important for Talysh people who live in Azerbaijan and we will be very happy if you could help us with this issue. Thank you very much for your attention!
