My apologies for such a long delay in responding to you. I'm fairly new to this and was not sure how to use Talk. Hope i'm doing the right thing. As it is, i tried to do some editing but seem to have made a mess of things. I'd appreciate it if you could make it right. There are still a lot of errors and inconsistencies but i'm hesitant to make any changes now.

With regard to the Spanish names, and other proper names, i've also been in a quandary as to how to treat them. I agree with the position that they should be rendered in Jamaican but at the same time i fear that they may not be recognizable. There are a few exceptions: Mikelanjelo is readily recognized as Michaelangelo. However, Lionaado da Vinchi and Yuohan Vulfgiang van Gieta may not be.

Actually, these are not too unrecognizable since Spanish is phonetic to begin with.

And Sandevaj replied: Good question. I am afraid I cannot give you a definite answer. The 'h' before words that begin with a vowel is used for emphasis, and to my knowledge is only used when writing prose, but is not a part of the noun itself. Yocahuna might disagree- I can't be too sure. I don't use it, because as I said, it's used mostly for emphasis, and is not always represented in speech- at least not at all times. --sandevaj 16:04, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Sandevaj is mostly correct, 'h' can be but is not only for emphasis. Jamaican has been up to now an oral language and placing an aspirate before words beginning with a vowel when the preceding word ends with a vowel is a feature of the language. The uncertainty expressed by Sandevaj stems from the fact that average speech switches readily from English to Jamaican and back so either form would be used. To establish an orthography that reproduces speech as faithfully as possible, i adopt the convention of using an italic 'h' with initial vowel words when they follow a vowel-ending word. 'Ingglish' standing on its own would have no 'h' but 'tuu hIngglish' would.

Evrooppa template

Hi! No, I'm not a native speaker, though I've been studying/working with the language since 1996. Thank you for the offer of help, it would be of great help, even if it's just little things of putting a country or city template onto a page and sticking the flag/arms into the template, or photos. I've found that often, if I can't find a photo or flag or CoA on one wikipedia, another language version will have it. I've just started going through the list of suggested articles every Wp should have (though of course with some additions that are of "local" relevance to Votians/Votia). Thanks again!
