ⲡⲓⲣⲉⲛⲑⲟ
[edit source]I just saw the messages on my user page. The IP who usually creates the names, uses English forms and ⲓⲉⲙⲉⲛ would certainly not be the form used in Coptic. Either it is ⲁⲗⲓⲁⲙⲁⲛ because it is from Arabic, or we create ⲡⲉⲙⲉⲛ as the Coptic version. (Think of Hebrew, who also has the same root and uses תֵּימָן teiman for Yemen). I want to explain ⲡⲉⲙⲉⲛ: As you may know, the Egyptian root jmn which we have in Coptic ⲉⲙⲉⲛⲧ (west, < *jamintij) originally also meant 'right', like the Arabic root ymn. (It is not loaned from (Proto-)Semitic, but a cognate). The Egyptian jmn was vocalized *jaminu > *jamin and would have yielded Coptic ⲉⲙⲉⲛ, with article ⲡⲉⲙⲉⲛ. Do you prefer ⲁⲗⲓⲁⲙⲁⲛ or ⲡⲉⲙⲉⲛ? ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 21:02, 14 December 2017 (UTC)
- I am fine with both, ⲁⲗⲓⲁⲙⲁⲛ and ⲡⲉⲙⲉⲛ. Let's hear what the others say. Ϯⲙⲉⲗⲗⲓⲥⲏⲧ (talk) 13:53, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- I prefer ⲡⲉⲙⲉⲛ, cause both names are made up (I mean ⲁⲗⲓⲁⲙⲁⲛ is a theoretical borrowing) and thus Coptic one looks better --Bloomaround (talk) 17:00, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
- Good, I shall move it then. ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 18:18, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
