[edit | edit source] People thought about Volodymyr the Great that he was "incredibly merciful". Every beggar and poor man was allowed to come to the prince's court for food and drink - as much as he needed, and to take money, every day, carts were delivered with food and kvass and honey to all the infirm: the crippled and the weak in their corners. The prince gave everything to the needy, and did not accumulate treasure for himself; he did not conquer anything - he only defended the state, building fortresses on the borders [1]. |
