Kabardian Wiktionary approved – details needed[edit source]

@Rhdkabardian, @Tahmid, @Asiyat Bijo, @LVCircassian, @Abaze nasho: Hello! Great news, the Kabardian Wiktionary has now been approved!

There are some details we need before the wiki can be created. They are:

  • Project namespace name (i.e. "Wiktionary:" in Kabardian)
  • The same for the project talk namespace ("Wiktionary talk:")
  • The timezone to be used for the wiki (it is currently set to Moscow Time, I assume that's correct?)
  • A logo file; I can help make one for you if you give me the translation for the slogan ("The free dictionary")
  • Which extra namespaces should be added. I already know about "Appendix" and "Index". Are there any other? For each, we need the name of the namespace and its talk namespace. So "Appendix:", "Appendix talk:", "Index:" and "Index talk:".

Thank you! Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:27, 28 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

We are deeply grateful for your decision to include our dictionary in your collection of Wiktionaries.

In answer to your questions:

  • There are some details we need before the wiki can be created. They are:

Project namespace name (i.e. "Wiktionary:" in Kabardian)
АДЫГЭБЗЭ ВИКИПСАЛЪАЛЪЭ
(КЪЭБЭРДЕЙ-ШЭРДЖЭСЫБЗЭ)
(see our current header: Adyghebze Wiktionary (Kabardian and Cherkess))

  • The same for the project talk namespace ("Wiktionary talk:")
[Адыгэбзэ] Википсалъалъэм тепсэлъыхьын
If this is too long, the first word in square brackets can be omitted.

  • The timezone to be used for the wiki (it is currently set to Moscow Time, I assume that's correct?)
Moscow time is convenient for most Kabardians and Cherkesses. Nalchik, Cerkessk, Maykop, Moscow, Ossetia and the entire Krasnodar Region are all on Moscow time. It is also relatively convenient for Kabardians in Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Germany.

  • A logo file; I can help make one for you:
I suggest using the current logo file with minimum modifications for optimisation. We have tried to optimise it for use with Mobile phones. Green and yellow are the Adyghe national colours and are a common symbol for all 12 Adyghe tribes (Kabardians, Cherkesses, Adygheans, Besleneys, Kubans, Baksans, etc.)

  • if you give me the translation for the slogan ("The free dictionary"):
Псалъалъэ хуит езыр-езыру ухэлэжьыхьыфу
(see our current header)

  • Which extra namespaces should be added.
I already know about "Appendix" and "Index". Are there any other? For each, we need the name of the namespace and its talk namespace.
So "Appendix:", "Appendix talk:", "Index:" and "Index talk:".
гуэлъхьэ (Appendix)
гуэлъхьэм тепсэлъыхьын (Appendix talk)
индекс (Index)
индексым тепсэлъыхьын (Index talk)

If you encounter any others, let us know and we will give you a Kabardian translation.
Question: Can additional ones be added later?

  • A request: in the middle of the top of the page, there is the menu item "Гъэтэрэзын" (Edit this page [alt-shift-v]). This word is INAPPROPRIATE and we have asked for it to be changed on multiple occasions. This field seems to be absent in other Wiktionaries and is absent from the Basic Messages. We would like to have it either removed (as in other Wiktionaries) or replaced with a CORRECT translation ("Тхыгъэр зэгъэзэхуэжын"). Everybody just seems to shrug their shoulders...

Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions as your work progresses!!)) Rhdkabardian (talk) 13:32, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Rhdkabardian: Thank you!
For the Wiktionary namespace, it should not be with the language name. So can I assume "Википсалъалъэ" is correct for that, then?
I don't see a current logo file, where is it?
And yes, more namespaces can be added later if needed, that's no problem.
The tab that says "Гъэтэрэзын" can be fixed in Translatewiki. Use this link to find where it's used. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 07:18, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes. To the best of my knowledge, Kabardian is the only language that uses "псалъалъэ". The closest literary language, Adyghean, uses the word "гущыIалъэ", so there should be no confusion.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "logo file". I though you meant the html-css code at the top of our homepage (green and yellow). You obviously mean sth else.
Do you mean the Globe in the upper right-hand corner?
In that case I would appreaciate your help.
The text should say:
LIne 1:ВикипсалъалъЭ (Wiktionary)
Line 2:Псалъэгъэнахуэ хуит (Free Dictionary)
I have used a synonym for the world "dictionary" so as not to be repetitive.

I have retranslated the 6 messages. Let's see if this fixes the problem. Rhdkabardian (talk) 10:13, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Rhdkabardian: Thank you very much! You can see the logo I uploaded on the right. I hope it looks OK.
We now have all the necessary data, so the wiki creation can start when the developers are ready. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 11:27, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Our sincerest gratitude. We will wait for your news!)) Rhdkabardian (talk) 11:50, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
