- Though it is usually assumed (and many dictionaries do so) that this word has a “Guinean” etymology — without any more precision…, even if some say «a Bantu Guinean language» —, absolutely nothing is certain.
- As I was born in Dakar and I am a Wolof speaker since I was 4 or 5, I can say a word about the supposed Wolof origin, here again, nothing is certain… And the native-Wolof speakers think (this does not mean they are right, but…) it has been borrowed from French (though it may be as well a mix of Portughese/Dutch/French). They may be right, at least for one reason: The production of bananas in Senegal is, by far, not that important, far less than in other African countries.

Translation in other languages[edit source]

I used a separate section simply titled “Tradiksyon”, instead of the Tradiksyon nan lòt lang yo, in order to add other languages than French, English and Spanish used in the template, because colonization in the Caribbean came also from other nations.
I just kept the German translation, as it was already there in the template.
One last word to say that I think it could be good to have the fr, en, es, nl, da, sv translations inside the template (and anticipate than more than one translation may be inserted, as in this case) and the de (and others) in a separate section, to distinguish colonization of the Caribbean and its influences and the rest.
