the european polecat ( mustela putorius ) and the ermine/stoat ( mustela erminea ) as the first part of the latin name shows ar from the same species - and so similar. One of them is kǟrpa, the livonian name of the other one, the livonians adapted from the latvian word ( sermulis ) to sǟrmõz, šǟrmõz and tsǟrmõ. The estonian word for kǟrpa is tuhkur, while the estonian word kärp can be replaced by hermeliin and by lahits. My impression is, that the article 'kǟrpa' should have the headline sǟrmõz. Günther
