Namespace translations[edit source]

@Alhassan Mohammed Awal, @Joachim Yirkang, @ANTHONY DERY: Hello! We need namespace translations for the Dagaare Wikipedia. Could you provide them here by just exchanging the English terms in the following (marked in red when viewing)?

$namespaceNames = [
	NS_MEDIA            => 'Duoro bimbu zie',
	NS_SPECIAL          => 'Be o yoŋ',
	NS_TALK             => 'Yeli',
	NS_USER             => 'Toma daana',
	NS_USER_TALK        => 'Toma daana_yeli',
	NS_PROJECT_TALK     => '$1_yeli',
	NS_FILE             => 'Duoro kɔre',
	NS_FILE_TALK        => 'Duoro kɔre_yeli',
	NS_MEDIAWIKI        => 'MediaWiki',
	NS_MEDIAWIKI_TALK   => 'MediaWiki_yeli',
	NS_TEMPLATE         => 'Tɛmpileti',
	NS_TEMPLATE_TALK    => 'Tɛmpileti_yeli',

Kindly give me hi on my WhatsApp Sir 0257681618 ANTHONY DERY (talk) 18:10, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ANTHONY DERY: Thank you! I have some questions/comments:
  1. Why is a different word used for "Talk" than for the other talk spaces (e.g. Category talk, Template talk, etc.)? Ideally they should be the same or at least similar.
  2. The same for e.g. File talk and User talk, which use "yelyeli" and "yelibu". Not saying that's wrong, it may be required by the rules of the langauge for the word to be inflected differently, but I would just like to ask to make sure.
  3. In "Help talk", why is "yɛlɛ suddenly" in front of "Sombo", when in all other talk namespace names, "yɛlɛ" comes after the word it modifies?
  4. "MediaWiki" is the name of the software, so I think it might be better to just leave it as "MediaWiki" instead of translating it to "Wiki lambo".
@Alhassan Mohammed Awal and @Joachim Yirkang, it would be great to hear your input as well. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 08:05, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ANTHONY DERY, there are inconsistencies in your translations. Talk cannot be yɛlɛ and kɔmbo at the same time. To avoid dialectical confusion, we have all resolved to use the central Dagaare which is what the orthography committee has approved and uses.
@Jon Harald Søby, the red links have been translated. We had very long discussions on our community's WhatsApp group about how to appropriately translate the terms. We have lecturers, students, and executives of the Dagaare language orthography committee in that group and those were the most appropriate translations agreed on for those terminologies. Even though we have translated MediaWiki, I think it makes a lot of sense to just leave it as MediaWiki instead. Some of these terminologies when translated into indigenous languages like ours, make understanding difficult for many users. We should leave it as MediaWiki. The translation we gave to it was "Wiki duoro bimbu zie" which means a place where data or information is hosted/stored. Alhassan Mohammed Awal (talk) 08:31, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Alhassan Mohammed Awal: Thank you! I have submitted these translations to the software. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 14:21, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
