Why not ⲫⲉⲗⲉ? I think that is closest? --ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 8 October 2017

No problem with . I was concerned with the . In the word Pelé, the e is not pronounced exactly as the Coptic (i.e., fat-ha). --ⲡⲓⲙⲟⲩⲓ (talk) 17:25, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

I know what you mean. But this is rarely possible when transcribing names from other languages anyway. Especially with Portuguese names. His family name could also be something like ⲛⲁⲥⲓⲙⲉⲑ or ⲛⲁⲥⲓⲙⲉⲑⲟⲩ if we wanna be close, and i dont think this would be a good idea. no language does it and in Coptic it looks super weird too --ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 8 October 2017

I'm less concerned with his family name compared to his nickname, so if you want to change his family, please do. I've no objections. --ⲡⲓⲙⲟⲩⲓ (talk) 18:06, 8 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

No I dont wanna change his family name. I dont think it is a good idea to stick to the very specific local Portuguese pronunciation like ~ nassimetu. We should write it like it were nassimento. Thats the reason why I also prefer ⲫⲉⲗⲉ. The ϩ just has no ground in his name. I dont know why you need it? Just to attract the stress? A word ending in ⲉ is stressed on the ⲉ mostly anyway. --ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 8 October 2017

Yes, that was my reason. --ⲡⲓⲙⲟⲩⲓ (talk) 17:30, 9 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

But ⲉ as an ending is usually only unstressed in non-Bohairic/Fayyumic, so it would not be misleading to write ⲫⲉⲗⲉ. Even in Sahidic and Akhmimic etc there are cases were ⲉ can be stressed. --ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ

I've already thought a lot about the best way to write Pelé in Coptic, and I could not find a good one. I was trying to put myself in the shoes of an Ancient Egyptian trying to read this article, or even a recent Coptic learner, using the authentic pronunciation, trying to pronounce it! Anyway, I do not object the removal of the ϩ at the end, if you feel so. --ⲡⲓⲙⲟⲩⲓ (talk) 00:10, 10 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

I also think ⲫⲉⲗⲉ is OK. Maybe also ⲫⲓⲗⲉ, ⲫⲉⲗⲏ and ⲫⲓⲗⲏ as the ⲏ in non-Egyptian words (and that is, Greek, but we could expand is to generally non-Egyptian words in modern Coptic) is pronounced like a i when it is stressed. In any case, I would argue for removing the ϩ. --ϯⲙⲉⲗⲗⲓⲥⲏⲧ 10/10/2017
