Географические названия в селькупской википедии[edit source]

Если эти географические названия придуманы вами, я должен сообщить вам, что такая практика противоречит правилам Википедии. Если для какой-то страны, города или реки нет родного названия, то следует использовать название из языка, имеющего наибольшее влияние, в случае селькупского языка - русского. Если эти необычные географические названия не будут встречаться в селькупской литературе, словарях и газетах, в будущем это может вызвать проблемы с одобрением этой википедии. Hello Patrick! I'm speaking on behalf of the Southern Selkup language community. First of all, both of us, Isimne and me, are ethnically Selkups (Tjujequm and Chumelqup); also both of us are (co-)authors of a bunch of books and publications. Representing a local NGO we are working at learning, teaching and practicing of Selkup languages, we have a wide range of contacts throughout Tomsk region including native speaking elders. Personally I wrote and printed a book on Selkup language which is spreading to every school and library in Tomsk Selkup localities. Working on Incubator articles we focus mostly not on Russian exonyms, but on the original names. Also we adapt different proper names to the Selkup phonetics that differs from Russian. It is not a problem, but a piece of the philological work which is necessary for a low-resourced language. So, speaking about toponymy:

Фӓ́рье comes from Swede autoethnonym sværige which is phonetically adapted;

Belarus is Чаӷэру́жба which is a direct translation of the original name; I can link you to dictionaries to check wordroots;

Ала́ӷэ, По́лэӄ and И́шланд are just phonetic adaptations of the original names of Alaska, Poland and Island;

Обранош comes from the pre-Russian Erzyan name of the city which is Obran Oš

Пятроӄва́ҷ is a traditional Selkup name for St.Petersburg which has been used in at least 2 dialects;

Хэ́лингэ is a transcription of the Finnish Helsinki;

Ӱл Ӄолд comes from the local Mari name of Volga Юл which is close to Selkup phonetics.

We take into account your point that the system of rendering proper names should be confirmed from written sources. We are going to describe all the phonetic transitions and proper names which are used. I wish soon we'll have such a linguastically approved work on hands that continue this kind of studies.
