A process Noongar people use to welcome you to Boodjarak - Country.

You can use Wonnil (Peppermint) leaves, Biboolboorn (Paperbark), and Balga (grass tree) fronds. The oils from the wonnil and balga make the smoke.

The smoke takes away the Warra Wiern (Bad Spirits) and brings in the Kwop Wiern (Good Spirits), see Wiern (Spirits).

How to have a smoking ceremony

[edit | edit source]

To make the smoke you have to burn the leaves then put the fire out to make the smoke. Let the smoke wash over you letting all the bad spirits go and letting all the good ones in.[1]
