I've used:

ⲙⲁⲛϦⲉⲗⲗⲟⲓ for "parliament" although i think that it's rather Senat as an Upper House and "parliament" should be something like ⲧⲟⲧⲥ or ⲙⲁⲛϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ (bu the second one has other connotations lol).
ⲡⲉⲣⲏⲧ for "house of representatives" (ⲡⲉⲣ + ⲣⲏⲧ (representative from demotic rt and Sahidic ⲣⲏⲧ, so Bohairic form should be the same, see Vycichl, p.179).
ⲡⲉⲧϯϩⲁⲡ for "legislature" – ⲡⲉⲧ-ϯ-ϩⲁⲡ "the one which gives law"
ⲁⲟⲩⲃⲏⲧ for "political party"
ⲡⲓⲁⲟⲩⲃⲏⲧ ⲛ̀ⲁⲣⲉϩ "the conservative party"

ⲙⲁⲛϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ[edit source]

Ibn Kabar in fact rendered the Arabic مجلس as ⲙⲁⲛϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ (Vat.Copt.71 f.74r; Kircher's edition of 1643 is extremely unreliable!). So did lately Maǧdī ‛Ayyād before 1996 undoubtedly in the modern meaning. --176.14.183.127 10:42, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder from which source he extracted this meaning? Besides, ⲙⲁⲛϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ is used in some modern educative videos as perfectly corresponding to the Arabic term and thus understandable for the majority of modern Copts who have any command of Arabic. --176.14.183.127 11:40, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

He took it from various sources, see p. 680b of his dictionary. I don't think it's actually a problem – there's other words with aforementioned meaning in Coptic. Also ⲙⲁⲛϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ has the Greek equivalent of καθεδρα which is kinda the same as مجلس. So let's use ⲙⲁⲛϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ for "parliament" and ⲙⲁⲛϦⲉⲗⲗⲟⲓ for it's Upper House. ⲥⲉⲣⲕⲓ (talk) 14:30, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just came across the same issue. I thought about ⲙⲁⲛϩⲉⲙⲥⲓ too until the dictionaries show it means buttocks. But if you wanna use it that way, it's fine (I wouldn't trust a scala more than Crum but coming from Arabic, it indeed sounds more like "parliament", and maybe it was reused that way after the Classical period). Most other words seem so ambiguous. There is a Coptic word ⲑⲱⲟⲩⲧⲥ meaning 'council, assembly'. But I'm hesitant to use it for 'parliament', because that is not the same. (Think of the problems we would get in translating "European parliament" and "European council"). I can't think of anything we can use for parliament. ⲙⲁⲛϯϩⲁⲡ '(legal) court' and ⲙⲁⲛⲑⲱⲟⲩⲧ rather a general 'meeting place' don't work either. ⲁϩⲙⲉⲧ (talk) 13:58, 30 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
