He had retiredto rest as usual, at his home in Lon-don, on the night of Christmas Eve,18G3, and was found at day, lyingwith life extinct, in an attitude of calmrepose. A few days afterwards hisremains Avere interred in the ruralKensal Green Cemetery, followed tothe grave by the chief men of lettersand artists of the metropolis, who lov-ed and admired the man. Among thenumber were Charles Dickens, Antho-ny Trollope, tlie poet Browning; and,with other artists, his life-long friendGeorge Cruikshank, and his later asso-ciate in Punch, John Leech.
