Figuren ble opprinnelig tegnet av Trætteberg for Sør-Trøndelag i 1929, men fylket tok den ikke i bruk. Våpenet er inspirert av Einar Tambarskjelve fra Melhus som pryder kommunevåpenet, berømt som høvding og bueskytter ved Olav Tryggvasons side. Alle elementer, kommunevåpen og heraldiske symboler ble rentegnet i 2014 av designer Tormod Leithe, Dynamis Design.
