Wp/nys/James Dickerson
Born in Gingin in 1883, James Dickerson was a horse breaker wer labourer.[1]
James joined the First Australian Imperial Force (AIF) in October 1914 with service number 392.[2] Due to his previous experience working with horses, James was able to enlist in Western Australia’s 10th Light Horse Regiment.[1]
James wer his unit, were sent to Gallipoli, arriving in May 1915. During nidja campaign, the 10th Light Horse suffered many casualties against Turkish defences at the Nek. Surviving nidja, Trooper Dickerson went il to another conflict il "Hill 60" wer received serious shell wounds to the kwon wer mart. James was sent to the hospital ship Devanha.Il the 30 August 1915 Trooper James Dickerson passed away due to his injuries wer was buried at sea.[3]
James had a younger brother Harry Dickerson who also enlisted with the 10th Light Horse. There is an article wer classroom activity about the brothers available at The Dickerson Brothers.
James is commemorated at Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey, wer il the Roll of Honour at the Australian War Memorial.[3]
