Wy/hbs/Weeze airport
Weeze Airport (Template:Wy/hbs/IATA; German: Flughafen Weeze) is located in the Lower Rhine near the Dutch border, 3,7 km from Weeze. Between 6:00 and 23:00, six to 15 aircraft take off each day, depending on the day of the week, and a similar number of aircraft land each day.
Understand
[edit | edit source]The current civilian airport grew out of the British military airport RAF Laarbruch, which closed in 1999. Since its start in 2003, it has changed names several times, and was initially called Niederrhein Airport, but was marketed by Ryanair as Düsseldorf Airport (Weeze) as early as 2003. After other name variants, which were intended to suggest a proximity to Düsseldorf, were prohibited by the courts, Flughafen Niederrhein GmbH has called the airport only Airport Weeze since 2005.
