Noun (укр. іменник), is an important part of Ukrainian grammar. In Ukrainian, nouns have three genders: masculine, feminine and neutral. A noun may serve as an object or subject within a phrase, clause, or sentence.

Sentence when noun is a subject:

Я люблю котів. English: I love cats.

Another example of sentence where noun is an subject:
Кіт любить сонце.

English: Cat loves the sun.
To build a sentence, we usually start from subject. But it is not necessary.

Sentence where noun is an object:
Я люблю котів.
Where word котів (cats) is an object. Another example: Котові дозволено все. Literally in English: All is obliged to cat.
