Articles in Katharevousa
[edit source]Hi, Thalassohora! I would like to thank you for the articles you have created/improved recently for the Ancient Greek Wikipedia. However, in my understanding, you wrote them in Katharevousa Modern Greek instead of, e.g., Koine Greek. This is an Ancient Greek Wikipedia, therefore it is necessary to write in Ancient Greek (Attic or Koine). Katharevousa is only allowed for modern inventions and concepts, which cannot be expressed otherwise. Thus, you should revise your articles accordingly. Thanks! - Of course. I am deeply sorry for what have I done. I was not sure if I could use basically Ancient Greek (Attic/Koine et cetera), due to the reason that Modern Terms cannot be transfered to Ancient Terms (For instance, the elevator (Ασανσέρ in Greek), cannot be turned into a Koine term, so that is why I would use the Katharevousa term (Ανελκυστήρας). So, I will try my best to make it look more 'Koine', even if it would be close to impossible adding modern terms in ancient language. Thank you very much. - You have no reason to be sorry: I appreciate your contribution; my message was just for information. Ἀνελκυστήρ would be okay, like all Katharevousa terms necessary to indicate modern inventions (forms like ανελκυστήρας, on the other hand, are not accepted because they are a mixture between Demotic and Katharevousa Greek). If you need to use a neologism, consider if it is really necessary and if it is compatible with Attic/Koine Greek (for example, suffix -τήρ is typical of Classical Greek, suffix -τήρας is not).
