Old title was 'Origins'[edit source]

The old title of this page was 'Origins', but the story of the origins of the Noongar people is told in the page 'Wp/nys/Nyitting (Dreaming or Cold Time)' and is not what was written here when the title was 'Origins'. This talk page was used to store the old content page when the title was 'Origins' and a redirect to Wp/nys/Nyitting (Dreaming or Cold Time)' was in place (the redirect was later removed). The new title 'Scientific ideas on human evolution' better reflects the old content matter and hopefully the saved content can find a home under the new title.

The title 'Origins' was a play on Charles Darwin's theory and book "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection". But Darwin's theories have been misused to support Social Darwinism, which despite the name is nothing to do with Charles Darwin's theory "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection" but rather supports laissez-faire capitalism and colonialism. Social Darwinism, as discussed in the content page here and in the page 'Wp/nys/Wadjela#Terra Nullius', was used to justify colonialism and is a repugnant idea. The title 'Origins' coupled with the old content may have unwittingly stirred memories of the discredited idea of Social Darwinism, so I changed it. A couple of procedural notes[edit source]

  1. By moving these pages without leaving redirects, you created broken redirects at Wp/nys/Origins and its talk page. (Of course, if you had left the redirects, moving the pages would have created double redirects instead of broken redirects, which isn't much better.) Just be sure either way that you make sure you are not leaving redirects behind going forward.
  2. Since this is an Incubator project, I don't see any general reason why you can't work on the translation while the page remains in mainspace. The only possibility that I can see is that if the project goes up for approval, you don't want this English-only page to be part of the random page checks LangCom will make to validate the project. But despite the discussions at Wikimania, you're still not quite there, and remember that user pages do not get moved when projects are created. So I think I'd leave it for now. When you and I both think this test will be in front of LangCom, then move it. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:40, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
