Background
[edit | edit source]Joseph Peter Yaw-kan (Mr.), is a passionate Anufɔ language and cultural heritage Wikimedian.
The Anufɔ trace their origin from Anu in Central Ivory Coast. We are nestled in north east Ghana, Togo and Benin. Anufɔ is an exciting ethnolinguistic group in Ghana. I love to work with the Anufɔ Wikimedia Community for the digitisation of Anufɔ. I am highly collaborative.
Education
[edit | edit source]Joseph Peter Yaw-kan started his elementary education at the then Mayamam E/P Primary School, now Mayamam E/P Basic School located in Mayamam, northeast Ghana. Mayamam is a small settlement village within the Chereponi District which is bedeviled with water crisis, high rate of youth unemployment, poverty and low school enrolment rate of children of school going age. He moved from Mayamam to the Chereponi E/P Junior where he successfully passed his BECE and enrolled at the Chereponi Senior High Technical School for his Secondary education. Having passed his WASSCE, he enrolled into the E/P College of Education, Bimbilla where he obtained a Diploma in Basic Education certificate. From Bimbilla, he went to the Valley View University, Techiman where he attained his first degree in secondary education. Mr. Yaw-kan has not relented on his educational journey. He has since continued to enrol in other universities in Ghana for his second degrees.
Academic, Social and Community Roles
[edit | edit source]Joseph Peter Yaw-kan is a professional teacher in Ghana. He is into teaching and learning at the tertiary level of education in Ghana. He has stayed updated on current trends in teaching pedagogy and applies same in all of his classroom interactions. He is a teacher who is diligent in creating an enabling classroom environment for all manner of persons and levels of ability. Teaching and learning with the goal of high academic achievement are his interests.
Aside from his academic works, he is also very passionate about anything Anufɔ, his native language and cultural heritage. His academic works and research areas concern the Anufɔ language and culture. Joseph Peter Yaw-kan is collaborating with the Moore Wikipedia Community to onboard the Anufɔ language and cultural heritage to the digital space, a dream he hopes to come true by the end of the 2025/2026 year. Aside from this, he is into the review of the translation of the Anufɔ Bible.
