Criteria for activity

[edit source]

Check this discussion: Incubator_talk:Featured_wikis#"These_are_active_and_might_get_their_own_site_soon":_Criteria?

Based on https://meta.toolforge.org/catanalysis/index.php?cat=0&title=Wp/apc&wiki=incubatorwiki there are currently 2 active contributors for the past 2 months. apc needs 3 active contributors every month. So @HitomiAkane @FunLater @TheJoyfulTentmaker: make sure you come here at least once a month to make a non-minor edit ;) (unfortunately I'm not a native speaker so I can't help)

This is more important than the total number of articles. Looking at recently approved new Wikipedias, it seems that about one year of activity (meaning, at least 3 editors every single month) is sufficient for approval. A455bcd9 (talk) 11:56, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

@A455bcd9 Thank you for pointing this out, we will try to make our best, as for now we are creating the main bases of Wikipedia project, as policies and guidelines, and we'll try to consider your note. HitomiAkane (talk) 13:03, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
You're doing a fantastic job, it's impressive! A455bcd9 (talk) 15:05, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@A455bcd9 Thanks, I'm doing my best HitomiAkane (talk) 15:10, 26 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for bringing this up, this is very helpful guidance @A455bcd9! I am a learner of the language myself, but my contributions could count as legitimate activity since I am in contact with native speakers through our Discord server and through other personal channels. Still, one of my priorities is to help build the community, so I'm also actively trying to find more contributors. I may open a separate thread to discuss those strategies. I'm hoping that the Levantine WP will get its own domain sometime in 2025 if everything goes well 🙏🤞. TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 02:54, 27 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
By the way, I think that tool is requiring at least 10 non-minor edits per month. Usernames below this number that month are grayed out. It may not be a hard requirement, but seems to be the heuristic that is used right now. Just an FYI... Anyway... happy new year, and thanks so much everyone for the amazing milestones in 2024! Wishing everyone a wonderful 2025! CC: @A455bcd9 @HitomiAkane @FunLater TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 20:37, 29 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
You're right: "Bots, and users with less than 10 edits, are struck out or discounted." A455bcd9 (talk) 09:05, 30 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
"At least 3 users must be active. They are active for 4 consecutive months": for apc this is the case since November 2024. A455bcd9 (talk) 16:09, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Proposal for Wikimedia User Group: Wikimedians of Varieties of Arabic

[edit source]

Hi, I am thinking of forming a Wikimedia User Group that would jointly support Wikimedia Projects in all Arabic Variaties, including Levantine Arabic, Egyptian, Moroccan, Modern Standard Arabic etc. Would you be interested in becoming the initial members? There is no time commitment and we can discuss further steps later on. @A455bcd9 @FunLater @HitomiAkane If there is enough support, I will start by creating the page as described here. Update: The project home page is now available on Meta. Please add your names there if interested. TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 21:02, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

@TheJoyfulTentmaker
Although I don't mind the idea, I must point out these two things:
1. There will be a great contrast between Modern Standard Arabic and other Arabic varieties.
2. I still have a lot of work on the Levant project, so I may not have the needed time to be involved along the creation process of the Wikimedia User Group.
Otherwise, I support any efforts towards group work.
Good luck. HitomiAkane (talk) 22:55, 26 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your support @HitomiAkane, your endorsement is sufficient and no additional work is needed. I believe your work for the Levantine Project already counts towards this initiative. 🙏 The purpose is basically a) to get some funding from the WMF for activities that can not be substituted with volunteer work (such as trainings, conferences , etc) and b) this may help us build a friendly relationship with the MSA content contributors, who typically know at least one additional dialect.
@MRidhaAJ @Kirkukturk3: Would you be interested in joining or endorsing such a group? TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 01:04, 27 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I will be interested in joining and endorsing it. Best iraqi (talk) 13:27, 27 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Good, I put my name on the list days ago before replying to this comment. MRidhaAJ (talk) 03:34, 8 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks everyone for the responses. I have started writing the page on Meta. If you have any feedback please let me know or directly edit the page. TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 02:06, 2 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Including Algerian and I totally agree. 105.111.25.176 16:48, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, of course, Algerian is definitely within the scope. TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 02:54, 15 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Only one active contributor in May 2025

[edit source]

FYI: https://meta.toolforge.org/catanalysis/index.php?cat=0&title=Wp/apc&wiki=incubatorwiki. Active = at least 10 non-minor edits per month A455bcd9 (talk) 15:43, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

@A455bcd9 Thanks for noting this, I believe that active users will do this , thanks again. HitomiAkane (talk) 23:36, 14 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Latin script support

[edit source]

Greetings, everyone! As I mentioned in the LangCom discussion page, I think we need Latin script support for this to be a true test project, in the sense that it is accessible to all Levantine speakers, including the ones who can only use it with the Latin Script. It does not need to be an automated conversion, we can simply have a sub-sub-domain within the incubator, like Wp/apc/latn or Wp/apc-latn. The important thing is the pages need to be configured for Left-to-right writing. We can manually sync the pages, and not all pages need to have a latin counterpart. We can put indicator boxes if a page has a one. Any thoughts about this? @Jon Harald Søby @Amire80 @FunLater @HitomiAkane @A455bcd9 TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 00:20, 8 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@TheJoyfulTentmaker To make any page or even any part of a page configured for LTR you can use templates LTRO and LTRC, simply put your text between those template, like this:
{{Wp/apc/LTRO}}
The quick brown fox jumps over 13 lazy dogs.
At 7:45 AM, it reaches the park located at 221 Maple Street.
Version 2.0 of the report was finalized on December 8, 2025.
{{Wp/apc/LTRC}}

Welcoming Modahabbab to our community

[edit source]

Welcome to the Levantine Arabic Wikipedia community Modahabbab. (EnWiki userpage) We really need some help here, even just 10-15 edits per month would be super helpful for the project. You may make small edits, typo fixes, or start translating the first few sentences of any article from your favorite article into Levantine Arabic. Anything... Even the smallest changes would be super helpful, so the project can get approval. It can be as soon as a couple of months if there is consistent activity. Please let us know if you have any questions. TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 03:20, 12 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Funding proposal for Spoken Levantine Arabic Wikipedia

[edit source]

Greetings, everyone! I wrote a Rapid Fund proposal for having a number of articles narrated by professionals.. You can find the proposal here. Any feedback is more than welcome and would be appreciated. If you'd like to work together on this, that would be great as well. Thanks. TheJoyfulTentmaker (talk) 05:21, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
