Simple Italian Wikipedia

In the same way the Simple English, a simplified version of English Wikipedia, exists and help people everyday to understand complicated topics, i think there should be more languages with a simplified wiki, and i think Italian is a good place to start since the Italian wiki is very populated and a simplified version of it would really help. --Capitanfra (talk) 10:43, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
- This is not possible as new "simple" projects are not allowed. Also, the code "its" stands for a different language. Cf. m:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Simple Spanish 3. --MF-W {a, b} 07:08, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- Proposed project: Wikipedia
- Language: Santali language
- Script: Latin
- BCP 47 language tag : sat-latn
- MediaWiki code:
- Temporary main page: Wp/sat-latn/Main Page
- Other Wikimedia projects:
- Proposed Wikimedia project: https://sat-latn.wikipedia.org/
The creation of a test wiki for the Santali language using the Latin script. The language code for Santali is sat, and the script code for Latin is Latn. Therefore, the proposed BCP 47 language tag for this test wiki is sat-latn.
Santali is a language spoken by millions of people, primarily in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal. While the traditional script for Santali is Ol Chiki, the Latin script is also used by a significant number of speakers, especially for digital communication and educational purposes. Creating a test wiki in sat-latn prefix would greatly benefit the Santali-speaking community by providing an accessible platform for content creation and knowledge sharing in a widely recognized and utilized script.
The establishment of this test wiki would enable contributors to develop and organize content that caters to the linguistic preferences of Latin script users. This initiative aligns with Wikimedia's mission to support linguistic diversity and ensure that all language communities have the resources they need to participate fully in the global knowledge ecosystem.
We have a group of dedicated volunteers ready to contribute to the test wiki and ensure its active development. We believe that the sat-Latn test wiki will thrive and eventually become a fully-fledged project, enriching the Wikimedia movement with valuable content from the Santali-speaking community. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Samar88 (discussion • contribs) 16:17, 20 May 2024 (UTC).
- It seems that a Santali Wikipedia already exists. This matter should, ideally, be discussed there, and if there's a need for a Latin script, a conversor should be implemented in the Santali Wiki. Iohanen (João) (talk) 02:33, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- For everyone, language and script is a very sensitive matter like you and others. In this case our Santali language and its script is also holds that much of respect and responsibilities to protect and preserve for our next generations. We love to express our expression in our mother tongue and mother script. While someone wants to mix-up one language with another script is not healthy for a language. Hope you understand the sentiments of the language community.
- Nowadays, Santali script called "Ol Chiki" is most prominent among the language community and may few Lutheran Churches using Latin script but not in formal setup. Here are two links as evidence of government initiatives: http://lisindia.ciil.org/Santali/Santali_script.html and https://www.sentinelassam.com/story/north-east-india-news/assam-news/assam-cabinet-decision-govt-to-introduce-santhali-language-in-schools-650237
- Also some prominent universities where other than language papers are taught in Santali language and its script called "Ol Chiki".
- https://www.srcmujhargram.ac.in/academic/ and https://www.bankurauniv.ac.in/get-page-details-sub-category-item/centre-for-santali-studies/programmes-offered/12
- Indian highest literary award called Sahitya Academy also provided to Santali literature in its script called Ol Chiki. So there is no need in Latin.
- Hope you understand whole thing regarding it and have a helping hand for better future of the development of Santali Language and their script. If you have any queries regarding this, please feel free to ask.
- Thanks,

Request to Create Neo (wp/neu) on Wikimedia Incubator
I am writing to formally request the creation of a test wiki for the Neo language. The language code is "neu".
There is already a project on Incubator Plus 2.0 but the language has an ISO code and we would like to move the project here.
We have a group of dedicated volunteers ready to contribute to the test wiki and ensure its active development. --Jon Gua (talk) 20:02, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Jon Gua: Since the language has a valid ISO 639-3, you may create a test at Incubator, but its eligibility and approval depends entirely on the LangCom, check the Language proposal policy (which is way more strict than Incubator policy for test wikis) for more information on this matter. I would like to propose the creation of a Wikipedia in Old Tupi (Ancient Tupi/Classical Tupi/Tupi antigo) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tupi_language&diffonly=true
Given that there is precedent for a Wikipedia in dead languages (like Latin), I don't see why not do the same for extinct native american languages. "main page" would be "Tobypy". I would also suggest that "wikipedia" be "Ûikipéndîa" as to keep the name consistent with Abanhe'enga's phonology .. --Itasookaasui (talk) 23:24, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Itasookaasui: As per the Language proposal policy, «Only Wikisource wikis in ancient or historical languages are accepted, because resources in such languages continue to be important to the world, even in the absence of native, living speakers of those languages. Where possible, such languages should be bundled with the modern equivalent Wikisource project (such as Old English with English), though that is not required.»
- The existence of Latin, Gothic and other ancient or historical languages is due to these wikis predating the creation of this policy. Iohanen (João) (talk) 02:24, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

- A language must have a valid ISO 639-3 code to be eligible for a test wikiproject.
- As per Help:Manual and Help:FAQ you must have an ISO 639-3, the options available for you are as follows:
- «You can try submitting a request for an ISO 639 code.»
- «You can start one at Incubator Plus, but you won't get your own Wikimedia wiki.»

Hawaiian Pidgin is a language spoken by up to a million people primarily in Hawaii. It is generally written in the Latin script and the New Testament has been translated into the language. It is also a source of certain English loanwords. --Langwich (talk) 16:06, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Langwich
- It seems there is no problem with your request. I'd recommend you create a userpage with a Babel template (check mine for an example) to show your proficiency in the language.
- You can go to the Help:Manual to start your test-wiki. Do not forget to issue a Request for a new language (Hawaiian Pidgin was rejected before but that's because a test-wiki was never created and it stood on hold; check here for more) if you want your wiki to have its own site and independence!
- Good luck and best regards, Iohanen (Garcez) (talk) 00:26, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, thank you for responding to me, there are however a few things I would appreciate being clarified before moving forward with this project. The most important being that I did not add a Babel template because I do not have any reasonable proficiency in the language. Furthermore, I am not in direct contact with any speakers and am unaware as to whether or not there are standard procedures for such situations or whether it is possible to request the assistance of native speakers. If it is possible to move forward, I would also appreciate any advice regarding a Request for a new language. Well wishes, Langwich (talk) 18:05, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

I would like to start a Simple Spanish Wikipedia. I don't understand how it makes sense to have a Simple English but not a Simple Spanish Wikipedia. It would be a great took for children and for Spanish learners looking to improve their own Spanish skills while reading material. I don't know if there is a specific ISO code for this, is there one for Simple English?. --Matiasobera (talk) 15:59, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Matiasobera: Simple language wikipedias are not allowed anymore.
Best regards, Iohanen (Garcez) (talk) 19:22, 20 September 2024 (UTC)- Thank you for the reply. Why are simple language Wikipedias not allowed anymore? Matiasobera (talk) 00:48, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not completely aware of the reasons, maybe @MF-Warburg knows? Iohanen (Garcez) (talk) 21:59, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- Projects that existed before the language proposal policy was enacted (e.g., Simple English wikis) have been retained, but new wikis since then must meet the requirements. Simple language wikis do not meet the policy (e.g. no valid ISO 639 code) and are not allowed. (See language proposal policy#Requisites) Syunsyunminmin (talk) 15:32, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

Anufɔ/Anufo also referred as Chakosi, is a Central Tano language spoken in northeast Ghana, northern Togo, northwest Benin and Ivory Coast by approximately 250,000 people. The population of this minority language keeps expanding over the years and it is crucial for the language to be archived and accessed on a digital platform like Wikipedia. This effort can also ensure the unique cultural heritage of the Anufo people is shielded from corruption adulteration. It is in light of this I propose for test wiki for the community members to contribute to the incubator for Anufɔ or Chakosi language that will subsequently grow to transition to live wikipedia. --Hasslaebetch (talk) 06:50, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

The Konkomba language, known natively as Likpakpaanl, is spoken by the Konkomba people, who are also known as the Bikpakpaam. A reasonable amount of Likpakpaanl literature exists. This literature includes primers for teaching, a dictionary, storybooks, and folk tales. There is also a full translation of the Bible in Likpakpaanl created through the work of GILLBT and GIL, Mary Steele, and RILADEP (formerly KOLADEP, Konkomba Literacy and Development Project). Likpakpaanl is now a language course studied at universities in Ghana offering languages as a course. It is also one of the examinable languages (students choose to write) in Basic Education Certificate Examination. Due to the growing interest in using local languages as a medium of instruction in the lower levels and likpakpaanl is not an exception, there is the need to digitalize the language on wikipedia and its sister languages. Besides, the community to embark on this new project to ensure that likpakpaanl is onboarded on the internet through wikimedia projects is on standby. The community comprises teachers and students of likpakpaanl language. The best way for Minority languages like likpakpaanl to preserve the cultural heritage is through onboarding it on the digital space like wikipedia and its sister project. Base on this, I propose a new language site Wikipedia Likpakpaanl.Hasslaebetch (talk) 20:41, 14 November 2024 (UTC)
- It seems there is no problem with your request. I'd recommend you add your proficiency in the language with the Babel template. If you don't have any proficiency in the language you shouldn't proceed further, but if you do, you can go to the Help:Manual to start your test-wiki. Do not forget to issue a request for a new language if you want your wiki to have its own independent website!
