Summary

Description
English: Plate showing the Colossi of Memnon, twin statues of Amenhotep III standing at the entrance of his huge but now disappeared mortuary temple at Luxor, Egypt. The 72 pieces table service depicting scenes of Egypt, made at the Sèvres manufacture, was commissioned by Napoleon I of France as a present to Josephine when he divorced her to marry Marie Louise of Austria. Josephine rejected the gift.
This plate was painted by Jacques François Joseph Swebach-Desfontaines after an illustration by Dominique Vivant Denon. The designed was overseen by the manufacture director Adolphe-Theodore Brongniart. Porcelain painted in enamels and gilded. The Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
Français : Assiette montrant les statues des colosses de Memnon (les statues jumelles d'Amenhotep III à l'entrée de son immense mais totalement ruiné temple des millions d'années) à Louxor, Egypte, sur fond doré et émaillé. Décor peint par Jacques François Joseph Swebach-Desfontaines d'après une illustration by Dominique Vivant Denon (Adolphe-Theodore Brongniart, directeur de la manufacture, supervise le projet). Elle fait partie d'un service de 72 pièces décoré de scènes d'Egypte, commandé à la manufacture de Sèvres par Napoléon Ier en cadeau pour Joséphine, quand il a divorcé d'elle pour épouser Marie-Louise d'Autriche - cadeau que Joséphine a rejeté.
