Nederlands: Negatief. Naast rijst plantten de Dajaks verschillende andere eenjarige voedselgewassen. Daartoe behoorden verschillende soorten wortels en knollen, waaronder de groep gewassen die de biologen Dioscorea noemen, de bevolking van de Archipel ubi, en de Engelsen yam. De Nederlanders vonden dit voedsel, dat ook op veel andere eilanden van de Archipel voorkwam, zo weinig interessant dat er niet eens een echte Nederlandse naam voor bestond. Meestal had men het over 'oebies' en een enkele maal komt men varianten van yam tegen, zoals bijvoorbeeld jamjammers. Toch was de ubi ( en de wilde soort gadung) een veel aangeplant en gegeten gewas dat soms zelfs werd uitgevoerd. Later hebben de cassave en de zoete aardappel (bataat) de ubi verdrongen. (P.
