Wiktionary is different from Wikipedia[edit source]

Ahla Dezedien, Wiktionary is a dictionary for Maghrebi words. The pages your created are not dictionary entries but information articles (or stubs) which should be written in Wikipedia instead. In the Wiktionary, only words of the language with (or without) their definition and synonyms. I hope your understood the reason for deleting your contributions. --GeekEmad (talk) 19:21, 4 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Test administrator status expires in late May[edit source]

This is to remind you that your test-administrator rights will expire late in May. (See Incubator:Test-administrators.)

  • If you wish to continue as a test administrator, please put a request for renewal at I:RFTA approximately one week before expiration. Ideally, please also notify your test community on an appropriate page that you have a Request for Test Administrator open.
  • If you do not wish to continue, you do not need to do anything, and your rights will be turned off when your term expires.

Hi, Dezedien. I commented out your redirect to a page trying to do {{Wp/arq/Reflist}} using a module. I've given you a working copy of the template instead. By all means continue to work on a module version. In the meantime, though, please go through the 63 (or so) pages that call {{Reflist}} and change them to {{Wp/arq/Reflist}} instead. Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:28, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @StevenJ81: thanks a lot for letting us your help, it's really cool ; so now all of 63 articles is fixed, however i discover other broken likes on two pages.

i'm trying to repare but i'm not sure if it's the best solution.if you have small little time to give us, please see that --Dezedien (talk) 18:40, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning the Algerian Wiktionary[edit source]

Hello, I am now fully available for work. However, I have an advice about the Algerian Wiktionary. I do not think it is worth it right now. Algerian Arabic has no standard orthography, yes, we may include all possible spelling variations, but I think we should wait a little bit. Furthermore, I personally want the project to be a Maghrebi Wiktionary, rather than an Algerian one. Nevertheless, if you insist on adding entries to the Algerian Wiktionary, I suggest doing it manually because you might decide to change the spelling or the entry layout after some time. Spelling aside, there is the problem of "Standard language". The Algerian speech today is different from that of 50 years ago, especially the Arabic one. For example, someone from 1900 might use words like frisa, jrima, mɛǝllǝm, jmiɛ while a modern Algerian pronounces them following Standard Arabic pronunciation, which he learned at school: farisa, jarima, muɛǝllim, jamiɛ. In Melhun and Chaabi poetry, the old pure pronunciation is retained, however, on the streets, the newer Arabic-influenced words are the norm. So, you also have to make a choice about that. --عimad (talk) 02:50, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @GeekEmad: For a person who lives outside the Maghreb and has no idea of the local language, I agree that there is no difference between Tunisian, Moroccan or Algerian. The same observation is that when we ::analyze the Algerian, it contains several sub-dialects like Tlemcani, Annabi, Dziri, Blidi, Wahrani and more.
I am not a specialist in linguistics, I just want to help by the knowledge I have, I do not want to create more blur and ambiguity for researchers or for simple readers.
I have thought for a long time on this subject
However, it is possible to add to each word page the geographical origin of the word and in which sub-dialect that word is included
--Dezedien (talk) 10:04, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What about the spelling? --عimad (talk) 18:20, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Deleting (especially without redirect)[edit source]

Hi, Dezedien. When you delete a page, and especially without a redirect, please make sure you're not leaving any orphan pages or redirects lying about. For example, when you moved Wp/arq/فرانساوية فل جازاير (الـ), you left behind a redirect at Wp/arq/فرانساوية فلجازاير that needed fixing. I've done that, but if you are going to delete pages as a test-admin, you also need to go check on things like broken redirects and double redirects within your test. Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 14:38, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your advices --Dezedien (talk) 14:59, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Preparing for approval[edit source]

Dezedien, and also Csisc, I think Wp/arq is well on its way to approval. And given that the project all of a sudden went quiet this month, I'm guessing that the students in Chlef are on break now. Let me mention two things that I think need to happen to get this project over the top:

  1. Go to translatewiki.net (this page) and finish translating at least the "most used MediaWiki core messages", along with as many of the rest of the "MediaWiki core messages" that you can manage. It probably won't be too hard; I suspect that in many cases copying from the standard Arabic versions will do fine for your purposes.
  2. Make sure your project has a reasonable percentage of substantive articles. I set my project to "Wp/arq" and went to about 15 random pages, and only about two really had a lot of content in them. LangCom will want to see a higher percentage than that.

All that said, your project is one of only ten currently in the Incubator that actually meet the activity standard for approval. And of those ten, two are already approved (and will soon be deleted) and two more are about to be approved. So you're close. Good luck getting the rest of the way there. StevenJ81 (talk) (Incubator administrator) 13:12, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

StevenJ81: I thank you for your support. The students of Chlef are in break now and that is why the project was inactive in Incubator this month. However, we still work on the project mostly offline. In fact, GeekEmad is developing a kind of Algerian Arabic that can be intelligible for Tunisian and Moroccan people so that we can have contributors from Tunisia and Morocco for our project. He is also developing a practical orthography guidelines for Algerian based on the the habits of users to easily write Melhun (19th century) as well as books and social network messages (20th and 21st century). We have also developed some templates offline for Algerian Wikipedia. As for the MediaWiki messages, there are several false friends between Modern Standard Arabic and Algerian Arabic. Furthermore, Algerian Arabic has its particular morphology rules that differ from the ones of the Modern Standard Arabic. Consequently, we have to manually translate the messages and not to copy from the messages in Modern Standard Arabic. However, we will do that. As for the articles in Algerian Wikipedia, you are right. We should fix that. I presented last year a method to create articles based on lead-only translations from other Wikipedias. The method is simple and efficient and it was already adopted by the community of the Algerian Wikipedia. The method will solve this problem in around 2 months of work. Yours Sincerely, --Csisc (talk) 13:32, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much. I'll make a note that we'll be aiming to get this project approved during the autumn. Please keep me posted on your progress. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:36, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
this is Chlef university students see more with Category:Wikipedia Education Program Algeria 2016-2017 Awards Ceremony
Hello StevenJ81 thanks for supporting / helping us and the djazairi project - actually, it is the summer holidays for the Algerian university, We plan to start the next program will begin in the early fall. Students should carry out the development of articles that already exist. Including adding links to an image and correcting spelling errors. For us, we should make a translation of the rest of the interface and messages on the translatewiki. We are aware of the quality of the articles, but we have asked contributors to create page skeletons - likes cities, likes departments, etc. But it is a good experience for us and for the students that they have for the first time in an Algerian university, a student can study with an enthusiastic program. And we are proud of the result.
Thanks for your advices --Dezedien (talk) 14:47, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. You certainly don't have to hurry to get the project out of Incubator if you don't want. You're welcome to take your time and have the students work slowly and methodically on this. I'm not present to know what the educational goals are, nor the course rubrics, nor the long-term planning ideas. I simply want you to know that if you want to have this project approved as an independent project, this is what needs to happen. (And, in fact: if you think, for example, that you see the project as being ready for approval not this fall, but in the winter or spring, that's fine. If we know what you have in mind we can help you get there along the timeline you have in mind.) StevenJ81 (talk) 14:58, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Spring semester 2018[edit source]

Hi. I see you're back in business. Great!

Just a little reminder: do what you need and want to do for educational purposes. We're in no hurry to push you out of Incubator as long as you're happy being here. But to the extent you want to start aiming toward an approved, independent project:

  • Focus on adding detail to existing pages more than creating new page skeletons.
  • Work on the interface at translatewiki.

Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 21:12, 12 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wp/arq/جانت
  • Wp/arq/
  • Wp/arq/
