Ça commence en lion! Est-ce que tu possède un dictionnaire micmac? De mon côté, j'ai seulement trouvé quelques sites internet. Il y a un dictionnaire assez récent [1]. Il y a aussi celui de Silas Rand, plus ancien. Le problème avec ce dernier c'est que cette orthographe est pratiquement oubliée et qu'il faut adapter les mots mais, en plus, la prononciation a parfois changé depuis ce temps. C'est donc assez risqué de l'utiliser. C'est dommage, parce qu'il est disponible en entier sur Google Books. --Red Castle 02:13, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non, j'utilise internet tout comme toi. C'est surtout pour créer une base. J'ai envoyé des messages à plusieurs personnes/organismes/conseils micmacs pour voir s'il y a un intérêt. J'ai reçu une seule réponse pour le moment, mais il se montrait très intéressé et a même dit qu'il avait déjà transféré mon message à d'autres gens. Espérons que le Wikipédia pourra voir le jour ! C'est très intéressant! Si au moins une personne dont la langue maternelle est le micmac ou au moins qui a une bonne connaissance de la langue se joint au projet, ça rendrait l'expérience très intéressante, surtout qu'on doit être rendu à quoi, 110 articles ou quelque chose du genre? --Red Castle 02:21, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vermont articles on Alabama WP[edit source]

Je suis d'accord -- we don't need the state seal and state map on articles about small towns in Vermont. Most of these place-name articles in this wiki appear to be bot-generated. Another question on Choctaw[edit source]

Do you recognize that alternate character for "A" in the Choctaw font? I thought it was the IPA character that looks like a little rounded V, but I see that the character used in this wiki is something else. Any idea which it should be? Djembayz (talk) 02:55, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Google Endangered Languages Collaboration[edit source]

Hello Amqui! We could certainly contribute links to Wikipedias, Wiktionaries, Wikisources, Wikinews, Wikiquote in endangered languages.

Another thing we might be able to do would be provide an opportunity for crowdsourcing transcriptions of documents or audio files. This was under discussion at Wikimania 2012 as a GLAM collaboration with Old Weather, and in the sessions on collaborations with libraries.

It's interesting to see that First Voices is involved in the Google collaboration. We might be able to provide images for some of the digital language archives so they don't all have to create their own illustrations, or develop a core set of photos to illustrate teaching materials.

Wikiquote could be a good way to help develop conversational materials. Then the young folks asking grandma to say something can make the project more fun and engaging for everybody. People don't sit around all day speaking pattern sentences like "This dog is running. That dog is running fast. One dog is running. Two dogs are running fast." They say things like, "Hey, is that your cat sitting over there under the chair?" "Well, actually, you could pound the acorns with a rock, but me, I just pop my acorns in the blender ..." "You need to reach under the girth and tickle that horse so he stops holding his breath, then cinch the saddle up tight." (No point in teaching people how to be boring and just say boring stuff, is there?) I've noticed that the Kutenai and Blackfoot seem to have a fair number of entertaining conversational phrases ... We could use Wikiquote as a way to help people find examples of everyday things to say, and come up with some interesting material for elicitation.

Had some discussions about using Wikipedia and Wiktionary as a resource for endangered languages at Wikimania, as I was trying to find out what would need to happen to make mobile audio upload easy.

My idea was that we could pull up a Wiktionary definition or a Wikipedia article on a mobile phone (possibly an offline Wikipedia article), click a "record button" at the top of the definition or article, and then use the mobile phone to record an audio or video clip of an elder / native speaker. The clip would then appear at the bottom of the Wiktionary or Wikipedia page with a name like "Wiktionary definition native speaker phone upload audio link number 1." (You could edit the name later as needed). Seems to me that Google should be able to provide this functionality pretty easily with the Android operating system ...

Redirect[edit source]

Reference this edit [3]. Why do you say it is unnecessary while the use of accents (such as é) is not very popular within the micmac communities and we see way more often apostrophes being used (such as e') ? In fact, both writing system are as official, so redirect are not only necessary, but essential if we want all dialects to exist on the same Wiki. Feedback on Incubator wikis[edit source]

Yep, this is exactly as I said during our meeting, the opinions on the "one-word" articles are mixed, one extreme or the other; there's almost nothing we can do about that. Some think this is a good way to make it ready for Native speakers so they can just hit edit and add stuff, others think it just make the Wikipedia looks less serious and make things more confusing. Congratulations! Atikamekw Wikipedia has been created![edit source]

MF-Warburg has completed exporting the test wiki to the new location, so you should be good to go. Just a couple of things from here:

Have a final check in the coming days to make sure you think everything is ok. I am going to remove the test-admin right from your account one week from today.
Test-admins do not automatically become administrators on the new project. To become an administrator, you need to do the following:

Create an "RfA" page (the equivalent of I:RFA or m:WM:RFA) and open a nomination there. It needs to run at least seven days.
When seven days are up, go to m:SRP and ask the stewards to give you administrator rights. As long as there are no objections at the local wiki discussion, they will do that.
Administrator status in small and startup wikis is always temporary. Stewards usually start people off with three months, but if you mention that you were a test admin here, they might let you start with six months.
